what do you think is relatively more difficult to produce:

psytrance or chillout?

my gut feeling is chillout .. even tho it sounds more easy listening and simple in terms of structure and patterns.

i dunno maybe others have a different opinion.

I think depend on how you producing. If you are using synthesizer presets, and sampled drums, anything is not that challenging.

if you are coming up with each sound, perhaps a different story.

Trance is a very difficult music to produce well. A very easy music to produce ok.

maybe though, the same is true for all electronica.

I think good music is more difficult to produce.

Every kind of music is difficult to REALLY produce, I mean not using ready samples, patterns, etc., but really produce everything yourself.

Just playing around with a synth untill you get the sound you want can cost you alot of time...           Triplag Music

Actually I would say it's the opposite if one use the word production in the conventional sense, ie. creating a mix from the material available.
But I guess you include composing in producing, in which case I agree with you.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

well to define in the 'Trance' category u'll have to have btw a range of bpm which is quite smaller band compared to 'chillout' as per say
so i think to be in that small a band of bpm n keep up the creativity can be quite challenging
the problem with valuing art is, till u dont understand it, it's worthless but wen u do understand it, it's priceless!!

one would be hard pressed to point out a low quality chill release .. so maybe it is more difficult .. i guess .. trance even a no talent punter like myself can put together some scratchy beats lol .. which is not to say that all trance is crap of course .. but just judging by the sheer numbers of really poor low quality psytrance releases ...

absolutely buddy. Trance is easy music to produce ok. Extremely difficult to produce well.

I think it is some level of expert to make trance well.

But, you have much less expert making trance nowadays...

my 2 cents,

i don't think if there is something called 'difficult' during creation process.

creativity is for me, flow of ideas and sounds.
you just cant stop it

maybe the time before that happens is difficult (waiting for the muse??) but when it starts..
its never difficult

and about the production quality,
maybe there we can talk about difficulty. but imho, its all about the equipment you have got and how much you have control over it. its not about the genre.

once you have good tools (alot of money - thousands of dollars worth of studio) and you know how to use them 100% (alot of time to learn - years i meen) nothing is hard , its just a matter of inner vision and time.

your question is like asking whats harder to build , office building or living building , they both have the same foundation but only will use for something else.           www.sattelbattle.com

In my opinion both are very difficult to produce but i think Trance is much more difficult because of it's particular expression. You see in chillout you can vary and create whatever you like whatever you want to experiment you can. In Trance you always have to put a motherfucker beat to it which also limits your creation because most of the frequency spectrum is already pumping with sounds. Also in trance music you listen to it at 145bpm which is very fast compared to a 120bpm chillout or less. When you make music and you can listen slowly you can make the sound more perfect, but the faster it gets the more difficult it becomes to design your music's dynamics and scapes...We have made once a chillout track Inner Scapes which was quite a good result in a week...You can listen to it on our website www.soulkontakt.com still it's got the SK Feeling but it's chillout, we really enjoyed making this track and in my opinion was pretty easy to get a good sound! Much more easy than Trance for sure...

My 2 cents           Boom :)

Im an absolute dodo where it comes to production but over the years what i figure is that psytrance is easier because its easy to combine sounds against a backdrop of basslines to make it sound psytrancelike...
Chillout....now i guess is much more difficult and complex....if ur talkin abt ethno chillout (with world instruments etc combined in the tune) Eg :stuff like what Ott, shpongle, buddha bar ,lounge .....howevre IMO dub chillout is much simpler because it doesnt involve complex arrangemments ?
correct me if im wrong...but this is what i think...

I think depend on trance is very easy music to make " ok " philosophy. Can be difficult to make " wow " trance music.
