Psykovsky Faking Live set at Lost Theory :(

I realized very early on that most producers do little or nothing "live" and the only way to do much of anything "live" is to use Ableton Live or have massive modular set-ups and multiple helpers or members of the band like they did in the 70s. I first noticed this more than a decade ago by checking the gear connections that people had on stage.
If Psykovsky is putting (100s of) hours into the preparations of his sets the work is still there and deserving of compensation. He is performing the set and his lack of on-stage tweaking does not at all devalue or change this fact. He is performing an act. An understanding of these words should be pursued.
If you think his lack of on-stage tweaking categorizes him as being not "live" perhaps you should verify that the person posing as him is, in fact, not a zombie or animatronic robot.
Do I think artists should do more on stage? Sure. But to basically complain about how things are being done in pretty much every vein of music to some extent and then feign surprise or offense is utterly ridiculous. Every performance art every presented to an audience has involved preparation and rehearsal to the extent that safe approaches to the presentation have evolved so that mistakes and embarrassment are nigh impossible.
In short, pay for your party ticket. Understand that the people performing for you are doing an act and have already worked their asses off to present what you have to paid to hear. Stop having false, self-centered expectations from a craft that you very possibly do not fully understand. Enjoy yourself and stop coming up with reasons to be offended. |

I heard Psykovsky isn't actually making sounds at all, they're fake! He just wants you to think you're hearing music but actually it's all just done with mirrors. |

One time I was at a party where Psykovsky was playing. While he was playing he gave me a weird look, and said, "Why did you come to the festival with no camping supplies?" Well, I gave Psykovsky a weird look back, and said, "My camp is set up right over there."
When I got back to my campsite, all of my camping equipment was gone.

uh not sure i get you there..but we are talking about turning knobs of something that is not even pluged in , would feel ashmaed but maybe it s just me  ..
by following this logic, if nothing matter as long as the music is good why not just play one of your cd insteed of booking you..it wouldl end like this.. we dont really need a guy on stage in the end specially if he does nothing.. |

The author of the original post did not say "he was turning knobs on something not plugged in".
The author of the original post said, "was tweaking so many knobs, none in time with, or affecting any single part of a track".
Please re-read the original post.

I dont much care if someone plays live or not (if i want to see live perfomances i visit band concerts or jazz gigs) but i got serious problem when someone is on stage and pretends that he is doing something while he isnt doing anything at all. Just let the music play and dance and interact with the crowd, no need to do clown stuff by turning knobs around and pressing synth keys that are not even connected to a power supply.

Considering there is no way for any person participating in this thread to know 100% for sure what his knobs do, it is quote possible that he could have been dialing up a specific FX chain, some kind of instrument rack, a new preset for something about to come up, etc. as in, something that does not involve changing a sound in realtime as it is coming out of the speakers. You just don't know. Just because you don't hear an epic filter sweep or phase/flange does not mean the knob is doing nothing.
Most of the people discussing this right now (as usual - this is isratrance after all) either:
a.) do not completely understand the nuances of MIDI control possiblities (understandable as most people do not do this full-time for a living or even as a hobby)
b.) look for any excuse to talk shit,
c. both of the above.
End of story.

Is that really the end of the story? I fully understand the principle that a knob may not have an immediately apparent real-time effect, but based on the few times I've seen him, I'm skeptical that's what's going on in this instance. This is based on the degree of fiddling he does with the mixer and overall showy performance. I'd really like to be persuaded otherwise.
