I love you Shulman (loved your artist survival post also mate).

Sorry for putting this thread into jeopardy but i think that too many 'i have been ripped off' threads like this one have been posted on the forum the last days, thats ok ofcourse BUT please let us know what is going on exactly and not just accuse someone cause people cant understand the whole story and the thread is pointless.

Tell us who you are,who 'ripped' you off,why and how he did so and leave your telephone number and address so that we can get in touch with you           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

I think that the artists need to check out the business that they are doing & with whom!!
if you are doing with those kind or new labels that's what you will get always!!

& for all of you people its good those posts cause artists should be careful from rip off by those kind of labels & people.

its really a shame that labels use those artists for making there money & not paying the artists at all.

I definently think it's a good thing that artists have a forum like this where they can warn eachother of the many shark labels out there. As the situation is today with so many small semi professional labels and dropping sales it's even more important that the artist are safe from lies, stealing and manipulation from those people in the scene that are in it to make a fast profit by taking advantage of unexperienced artists.

Of course there have to be a balanced debate and people shouldn't believe everything they read. But a general rule is that if such rumours start there's always some truth hidden in the roumour.

Maybe it's time for isratrance to make some sort of guide for new artists (written by experienced artists?) and/or a section where good and bad experiences can be shared?

I am prevented from replying a full answer here, since this is an internal issue between Com.pact and Mr.Herbal.
Anyone who is interested in hearing our side of the story, please contact me personaly, I'll be happy to reply.

Oh, and Elysium, we are definately big shark labels making sooo much money over the backs of poor artists...specialy in this hugely profitable scene...
maybe its a good idea to give some advices and guidelines for starting artists how to properly manage a deal, so things like this wont happen, both to the artists and the labels.

cheers!           auspexx@compact-records.com

Well helen where did I say that com.pact is a shark label? I was speaking in general terms... But mark my words... I have also had my serious trouble with com.pact Records in the past..... But it's resolved now so there's no need to get into it further.

It seems like com.pact is breaking apart:
-Herbal Essence...
-Perplex (ran for brazil with new label & new live act)
-Ultra-Voice (Booking by himself and not like in the past - Via the label...)

BUT ...

I am sorry Mr. Rosengren but in my opinion you're absoloutely wrong. It's indeed of public interest if a label treat their artists wrong. I am sorry but if a label can't conduct a decent way of doing business then they deserve all the bad publicity they can get.

Again this is not an attack on com.pact but merely a general thing.

Hello everyone.
Normaly I don't enter this forom since I noticed that people are using it for gosip and telling bad things about eachother... but someone sent me this link.
I am the P.R. and Booking manager at Compact and I check all incoming mails and sometimes even Bog's e-mail, I never recived an e-mail from Herbal Essence.
Bog told me he got an e-mail from him on Yum Kipor and didn't have the chance to responed before he saw this topic on the forom.
We have no problems with any of our artists, Perplex and UltraVoice are working with us and UltraVoice was in Japan and soon going to Mexico all compact's bookings so if you are writing anything please check out the facts first.
All the artists working with our label know that they should provid us with an invoice in order to get payed.
Mr. Herbal if you have any problem with Compact please contact me at info@compact-records.com and I will do my best to try and help you.
I think Elysium can tell you that.
          enjoy life

And by the way, B-E-I-Z, Herbal Essence was never a Com.pact artist, we only licensed his track for Cosmopolite.

So again we see a wild charge that turns into a false charge - ppl, when will it stop? Do you really want to create a mess in our small industry where artists and labels stand on each side of the wall, without trust and lots of bad feelings?

Please check the other thread from Shulman - "Artists survival guide", there are some more advices for new artists about legal stuff and the industry.

be good ye all,

With all due respect mr elysium i do believe we are the only scene which solves these complications in a manner of friendship and the so called thing PLUR (which i havent seen a while)

If this was a regular POP label POP artist we would have 3000 lawyers printing out this thread right now for further "complications" to be born...

I think its time we stop throwing bullshit at eachother as label / artists and those who are not involved would stop interfering (like i do) and let them solve the complications privatly and we would all have a much nicer forum...

Well Rosengren I don't know what your experience tell you but I have been in this "friendly" scene as an artist since 1992 + worked within the established musicbusiness prior to that and I can tell you that I have seen labels conduct business in ways that would shock your system. Sometimes it's impossible to get through to them and "speak" to those labels and tougher meassures MUST take place to prevent them from fucking up more and more artists. Especially if those labels are not around the corner from where you live.

We all know that most labels know how to draw up a contract and protect themselves very well, hiding behind small letters in the agreements, but you tend to forget that 95% of all the new artists don't know the first thing about contracts and the law and believe me not many labels would actually help those new artists understand it better. Most of the time it's custom that the labels pay a lawyer to look the agreement over for the artists to insure that everything is ok and that all parties interests are met. This of course is happening in the more established music business - not at all in our "friendly" little scene.
I have seen it over and over again in this "P.L.U.R" scene. So whatever your experience tell you I bet you that many of the artists coming to this forum will stand behind me and tell you that if a label repeatingly conduct bad business and fuck artists over again and again then they deserve all the badmouthing they can get.... And frankly also deserve to be taken out of business...!

To open up our mouths are many times the only weapon we got to prevent the sharks from taking advantage of us and indeed new "green" artists.

Of course I would also expect the labels to speak out if an artist fuck them but somehow I don't think it happen that much. At least not compared to the many times labels fuck artists over!
