so wat u listened to wasnt psy or trance...just some form of electronica ? bcoz wat u talk abt was before the advent of the goapsy sound....
some names of wat u talk abt ?

Names... hmmm.... dunno man, it's a hard one, we only had tapes we recorded to each other- no names. We just called it Acid or Trance. I actually plan to put some of those tapes on the couputer and try to find ppl on the net who can help identify some of the tracks if I ever find the time.
First CDs that I have are from around 93, and I have some 12"s from early as 91.

Note that these are all Israeli related releases, as I'm from Israel. There must be others that are even earlier.
By 4x4 (or 4 on the floor) I mean the usual beat pattern used for trance 1,2,3,4 1,2,3,4, ...
BTW, some of the stuff we called trance would sound very weird for you to be associated with it these days, like 2Unlimited & KLF- but it was played in the parties then.

the goa sound sound is a lot older then the actual goatrance played @ parties what we define as old skool now...
the baseline appeared later just like I said above and became goatrance 
what turned out to be a nice combination...
just like shahar says, tapes were used or DAT's,
they are not totally the same cause with tapes you could change the BPM
with tapes you couldn't off course...

Danni, the thing here is, that Goa and Psy are almost the same thing. Mostly in Europe people still call to Psytrance "Goa Trance", but the term "Goa" its just because this genre started in Goa, India, thats the reason why many producers used hindu stuff in their tracks. Some other producers on those early days started to make also "Goa Trance" but without the hinduistic thing, like Pleiadians and many others.
With the years people started to give "Goa Trance" a more apropiated name, and it evolved to "Psyquedellic Trance" or "Psytrance", because saying "Goa Trance", is like saying: New York Trance, or Paris Trance or Mexico City Trance, and the
the term Psytrance its more global.
Musically, "Goa Trance" is old school, you can listen to the production, the sounds are less sofisticated, maby more trippy, it depends of your taste. Psytrance is more technologic and digitalized, because is the evolution of Goa.
Its like you and your father, you look alike, but you are the newer version of him, with some improvements and different points of view maybe, but same family and blood, easy as that

I'll never forget finding this CD at Shinjunk Records in Tokyo after hearing the buzz on Third-Eye.co.uk.... listening to it... and feeling the extra-terrestrial contact. |
