it's all about the crowd!we were playing in a party and the crowd was so tense that we litterally pushed us to play our sets at 160!even fungus funk tracks!
it was sooo funny!

for fun?
well dont think that pitch will go up and down every 5 seconds for +-10%. i was thinking something like +-3% in a long duration (eg 30minutes or more i dunno i havent test it..) So this is not too noticeable so it isnt annoying (i guess.. ). The reason is that i remember some times while being on acid 'hearing' this effect. And it was nice. As i said i havent test it really, so maybe its good (as i imagine) or maybe it will suck!           +-+talking with ali3ns around the universe+-+

Well, I would say that you should experiment before deciding anything. I used to play hardcore, and sometimes techno or trance at the wrong speed (33 vs. 45) would sound cool!

For psytrance, I try not to pitch below 0. If there are vocals then I'm careful about going too high BPM, as the vocals start to sound crap before anything else. Even with my laptop rig, which uses Traktor with good key lock, the faster vocals can still sound odd (check the Shift rmx of "Closer" for an example - love the tune, but the fast vocals don't quite work for me).

With full-on, it doesn't seem to matter so much. Just pitch that stuff up high and let it stomp.

If you're a good DJ, then you should experiment with changing the tempo of your set to suit the tracks. What I mean is, when a really intense track is peaking, slowly raise the tempo to add to the effect. Then back it down a little after the peak and before you start mixing in the next track. That way, you can get a slightly slower groove to help ease people back into dancing like mad.

If you use Traktor DJ, you can also lock both tunes to the Master Tempo, then raise the BPM of the set while you're in the mix. This can be quite pleasing. Of course, you can do this manually with CDs by moving both pitch sliders together, but that can get a bit tricky when you're trying to keep two crazy tracks matched.

Its ridiculous, because you are ruining a work of art!!! becaause manipulating the bpm drasticly changes the piitch and whole idea of the track that was originaly created by the artist.

I think not. Psytrance is dance music, it's made to make people dance, we're not talking about classical music here. If the crowd wants 150 bpm, and the track you're gonna put on is 146, pitch it up.
At least that's how I think. I want dj's to play my music the way they feel is best.           ________________________

If it wasnt for crowds demanding faster sounds, then DJs wouldnt be pitching up, then producers wouldnt be making songs in that BPM range.

But, tense crowd wants faster BPMs = DJs start pitching up = (some) producers start making more songs = less need to pitch up, but then the crowd wants faster, then it gets pitched up again.

If it wasnt for DJs playing records at the wrong speeds back in the early days, EDM would probably look like a much different place these days.

Now, if you like music like that or not is an entierly different story, and largly a matter of opnion.

For me, a nice chuggy 132-135BPM (with some dips and spikes) over the course of the night does it for me far more then 145-150BPM onslaught, but in the end - to each their own.

yes I agree with +/-3.

about master tempo... dont use it... while beat mixing even if your tempo is spot on it will sound like its drifting because of those slight double kicks... you will think its drifting, try to fix, and then the mix will really be off...

about the 150 bpm being rediculous... yes it is quite fast... but another thing about the speed of a track... you might have 2 tracks with the same BPM... yes both tracks are the same speed.... but 2 tracks with the same BPM can appear to be of different speeds according to what kind of Kick is used, and other details in the layers of the track...

most of the time 150 bpm is too fast for my personal taste, but i have heard 150 bpm tracks that did not feel too fast....

also on really big sound systems its easier to go to higher BPM's (as in a person who doesnt like 150 is more likely to like it if its comming out on a big system) and the last... at a long party / set... its very possible to slowly build to 150 and make you like it to a point where if the dj was to slow down to 147 you would feel its to slow...(even though you might usually prefer 147, 145 or whatever) basic relativity

well its not about taste..
its about speed
and i think it is much too fast..
i think anything beyond 145 makes the track sounds bad.
dont get it personal.. its only what i think

ps. you actualy right about the 136 bpm, it is exactly what i like
