Chill-out is about creating atmospheres, guiding people into a trip... its also about creativity, freedom and diversity.
I also mix trance and use chill-out "techniques" in my sets, i think it makes them much better. But sometimes i will also beatmix when mixing chill-out, like dub for example.

i made a travel with my favorit sound .. ad some "real dj" dont know doing that ...hé hé hé !
the stuff they say about me ... it is :
"u are not a real dj but u have very good taste"..
ass hole
i m a dj !!
i work on it !
when i m in a chill out i dont play bullshit!!

i have made a duo , a special dj crew
a set of old rocksteady musik
RooTS WURST CREW
we gonna be ready for the summer .
. i have allready play some rock steady stuff last summer and people was listening carefully...
we work hard to make a set with 5000 track of two minutes who begin and finish like a dirty underwear with old revox quality

to mix chill -you need to do it like evrything else--MOST importent is to know how to "build" to rythem lets call it like that.you can beatmix it also and you can make people even "move" like in a trance.
i play as trance d.j for more than 6 years and in the last years also chill out-dub and even reggae.i like to work with vynils and if i can to mix chill with 4 players in the same time...
people like to give opinion on something that they "don't" do...but feel free-trust yourself and enjoy from the music---you know that mix is mix--
all my best

Weaving together 4 hours of sonic tapestry with no concern for technique, and keeping a dancefloor moving for 4 hours with some kind of dynamic and having to beat-match seamlessly so as not to spoil 1000 people's drugs - or make them trip over - are two completely different propositions.
Theres no WAY I could do what Tristan or Dimitri or Leila can do. I could maybe learn but I don't share their passion for their craft and so will never excel at it like they do.
I don't really call myself a DJ. I'm just this scruffy dude who gets asked to play his favourite records in the room where they sell the tea. Suits me fine. If I were to start developing pretentions regarding my technique, I may avoid playing my favourite records and pick those that are easier to mix.
In my eyes, "the mix" is just a way of getting from one slice of beautiful music to the next - not an end in itself.
Which is fortunate cos what I usually do is wait until the first record finishes and hit "play" on the next one.

I'm better than Ott !
Nooo kiddin' of course. That was just to agree strongly with the "deejay" term... I don't really know what to answer when someone asks me the question... "are you dj ? do you mix ?" ...
ehmmm not really..
and then they don't even want to go on talking with you.... LOL

| i agree but i think that we also need a "line" that will build the atmosphere in the room--- as great Ott said:it is a choose of your favourite tracks for the the next favourite ones

Hello,i´m so please i´ve bumped in2 u guys n girls
,i play ambient,i cant beatmix,i wish i could, now i´ll tell you what i think:it doesn´t matter whether u can beatmix or be a technically out of this world rocket scientist 2-3-4 or 125 vinyl/cd deck mixer, fader, mover, shaker, candlestick maker,it´s what comes from your heart, knowing what relevence the next track has to the one you´re playing, being aware of what effect it will have on all the other people in the room, taking people on a journey, playing different sounds, fusions from different areas of music and your life, always remembering that you are in an AMBIENT room not a dance room and maybe some people that have come in,away from the manic, fast bpm´s n vibe, perhaps having a wobbly time and seriously need something, nice, chilled(like ambient music)to sort their heads out,you can play music from 20-30-50 years ago, it doesnt matter how old,new it is,people aren´t in the room to be impressed, they´re there to chill out,and you´re there to help them along the way..i like what OTT says,he doesn´t care who better, worse than him,he just play what he feels is right, playing ambient music isn´t playing with your egos,it´s about playing with your heart and sensitivity...BIG LOVE xx |
