Got it from the website

The CD sold out, and a 9000 pound donation has been made to Friends of the Galle (Reg Charity Number : 1107637) to help rebuild homes in SriLanka

Came across this CD cleaning my room just now, got me thinking about recent world events and made me look up this thread to see how the project ended up. 9000 pound sounds pretty darned good, esp considering that it's, trance, def more than I would have expected.
Maybe someone should do something like that for the recent China earthquake..
I've read that donations have been pretty low, maybe trancers could do something to remedy this.

Of course it would be more effective if everyone just donated something, but it seems like the record strategy was pretty successful in the case of the Tsunami Benefit CD. Also it reflects well on our community if donations come from trance-associated entities.

How funny that I should come on isratrance today, I've just done a bit of cleaning up on the Organic records site ready for some more releases ;-) Yes Tsunami benefit was a really good way to show that the trance scene actually does care. There were many people who did a lot of work to get that compilation together, but was totally worth it in terms of the great things we were able to do. Plus it was a kick arse CD. Never seen so many top trance artists and tracks in one Triple CD before, and I'm sure it's not been done since. Check out the track list ! :

If you run a label and care about the tragedies going on in the world why not start another charity project like this?!! BIG CHALLENGES NEED HEROES PREPARED TO WORK.

Hugs!

Hi Psycosmo

Thanks for your nice comments. Since the Tsunami release, every time there is a world disaster I receive some emails asking if Organic Records is going to do a benefit CD. Its nice that people think of us in this way, but I am not sure if it would work in the same way every time. For one thing, people might get bored of the theme... like oh no, another disaster, another benefit CD... and also it would be very hard to get the same result every time.

You have no idea how much work it was to get this CD together, with such a tracklisting and such packaging, and all quickly enough so that people didn't forget about the disaster by the time the CD was released! Remember that normally a CD takes at least six weeks from being completed to being released! Imagine if everyone would remember in more than 2 month's time about the last disaster...

However, it does cross my mind every time... perhaps we could do something. But one thing that frustrated us a lot with the Tsunami CD, a number of people involved tried their damm best to find a way that they could make money from their part in the project. You can't believe the angles they tried... we were doing our best to make sure as much of the proceeds as possible would go to the charity, and they were trying to be clever and get a cut. And we ourselves worked for 8 weeks like mules with no pay to do it! There were unfortunately some who did manage to make money out of it, mostly some shops who sold the CD for much too much money without passing on their profit.

So first of all... I can't work like that for free all the time. I have a family to support and that was a special situation which will be hard to do again. And, if people spoil the vibe by being greedy like I said, there's no point. It has to be pure to work.

However, I'm open to suggestions if people seriously think it can work again.

Actually I wasn't trying to suggest that you should... more that maybe it's someone else's turn now.

Still, the best is if the same no. of people who would buy a cd would just donate on their own. Or people could donate and buy a cd if someone put one out.

My main point was just to get people thinking about this stuff again, as the China quake has not generated as much donor action as the Tsunami (and not for obvious reasons like Burma, which IMO would be a waste of donation $)

In any case it's a shame that people tried to skim money on something like this... just shows that anyone who wants to help needs to be very careful about keeping track of the the money, cuz some people really have absolutely no ethics.
