Wattage is actually fairly moot these days.
With modern horn-loading principles, amps and speakers can push a much higher SPL using way less power...certainly more efficient.
For example, that 3000 watt F1 system, although I don't know which cabs you were quoted for, could probably hang close with the JBL gear you speak of.
We have a Turbosound Aspect rig, and the math adds to 50Kw, but the system has such alien technology, especially with the 880's hornload, that it is capable of doing close to 15K people outdoors, depending upon venue shape.
We saw pictures of a festival over in Australia called "Kiss My Grass," and they were using 10 fewer cabinets than we have for 10K people outside...pretty amazing actually.
Our company owns:
(8) TA-880H
(2) TA-500
(12) TA-880L
(6) TSW-218
and we're psyched on using it all outdoors for as many shows as we can.

Anyhow, I still stand by my earlier post...Turbosound and Funktion One are where it's at currently, no matter what the genre.

wow, I've actually never heard of those type of speakers. Here in the states I see mostly MACKIE for the big systems...but it's good to know!

for smaller(private) parties, Outline sounds pretty nice, but for open airs, Funktion One/Turbosound/JBL are the way to go..

even the best set of speakers can sound like shit if the signal processing and amps are bad configured. The key to great sound is knowledge about the systems
