we have not soo big 8K Mackie Active Sound System and thats what we use for our parties all around UK, indoors or outdoors.
To be honest i have no words to explain the quality and the clarity of the sound, you have to hear to know. We've also done few parties where we had 20K of the same sound and it sounded amazing,.... we were inside the music
Very compact not too big in size and no amplifiers, the only extra equipment u need is a good eq cos of the different locations u might be doing your parties.

But if u are more into old school big walls sound system where anything can go wrong for a great sound i would sugest OPUS.

all the best and i hope u improve the sound in Japan b4 i manage to get there

Good one, we use Mackie Active aswell, even the smallest setup can deliver for around 200 ppl. Easy to handle superior sound and rather low budget!

I would really like to listen/play on a Funktion one, so shure its the bomb!

Mackie- they make nice mixers to be sure.
i think their speakers are about the same as those Masterblasters though- no sub and too much high end... i begin to hate their sound...

Also a good mixer helps. I like the Mackie range of mixers, I think the sound quality is much better.

the sound at labyrinth 2005 was ridiculously good! the highs flew over like a jet, the lows thumped my whole body, while everything in between was crystal clear....funktion 1 rocked indeed!

i've also been really impressed with the DNA system!! the sound at "Earth Energy" last week had the dance floor boogying hard!! and Gin and his crew are a pleasure to work with and for a bargain price it's tough to beat for a 2- 500 person party!

Hmm well i guess it depends on how many subs u use, and how you calibrate them... Lots "oumph" here, for sure...
For small indoor we sometimes only use one sub, but outdoor 2 will bring bass to the forest!

...I remember one of my first major sets, when I was 17 yrs old (1996). it was a dragonfly rec party at Londons Tyssen street Studios with about 1000 people. we used a 50k EAW rig, but only turned it up half. The sound was so huge because we weren't thrashing the rig... also when I played some track a few windows feel out...

That's not really saying much though Glen, is it; we're talking about Tyssen St. here, after all, the venue that put the "goat" in "goa trance"...

Personally I'm not a big fan of Mackies; they have a very hard sound that I find tiring to listen to for long periods. A friend used to have 3K of JBL M-series which was ok, but again too harsh in the top end, especially when cranked up. Opus is my rig of choice, followed by Funktion 1 and Turbosound. However I agree that the engineer is as important a part of the rig as the speakers themselves. Many club nights in the UK use in-house rigs and the engineer is often brought in by the promoter; you can always tell when the sound man knows what he's doing.           Mastering - http://mastering.OOOD.net :: www.is.gd/mastering

Really interesting topic.

Here in Brazil I was "forced" to listen to so many nice acts through so bad sound systems... This is sad.

Good luck for your parties and sound system choices!

Definetly an interesting and important topic.

I've seen many live acts, with very bad sound system and terrible engineers; the result is not being able to listen to the music like its supposed to. This, I believe, is very important issue in party organization and many organizers should take it more into account.

Hope this thread is informative to those organizers who don't know much about sound system and its performance

All the best,
