Your system will run Omni just fine. However, you will have to be efficient. For example, Omni can run 8 patches at the same time within the same instance, but a lot of users open up a new instance for each patch - you probably won't get away with that.

The most efficient way though is to make what you want, save the patch, save the midi, then freeze/bounce it down to audio. I have a system that is more than capable of (and sometimes does) run multiple omnis but I almost always bounce it down.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

I can't believe how much fun it is to play with the orb on multi-osc bass patches...MMMM SO TASTY

...or having layered bass, hi/mid/low/etc on different channels and having a different orb for each layer....           If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Finally I can confidently second that Sure it is just a synth, but hey, when I am finishing the third track with all 8 slots of Omni filled - that means something to me

I do indeed love this synth, it can make a nice variety of sounds. I hope that they eventually do expand on the FM capabilities so that you could have Part A be the modulator for Part B and vice versa.... That would really create some interesting noises. I however tried to use this live and ran into some issues changing patches. I'd get a small dropout. Mind you I'm running a large set in Ableton but only consuming about 48% CPU. Wasn't anything horrible... just some dropouts when you don't really want it to happen. I'm sure that if I did a less involved live set it probably wouldn't be an issue. Nevertheless... I love this synth... maybe I'll post some patches soon.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

oh man I would totally love to get some omni patch sharing going

I totally agree on the FM section....I think an FM Zoom page is unavoidable as its one of the only sections that isn't really deep.

As for the dropout issues in live situations, I've been dealing with that for a while now and here is what I've figured out:

Multi switching is not happening. with Stylus RMX I can switch multis in the middle of a live set and there's no glitch, no nothing. If I do an Omnisphere multi, glitch always happens.

Also, if I'm in Multitimbral mode and switching patches through the menus in ableton I would often get a small glitch.

What's interesting is that the glitch almost always comes out of the omnisphere channel itself and doiesn't show up on the master. It's pretty funny...I was talking to spectrasonics about this issue for a while and it was tricky trying to capture the glitch for them..had to use my field recorder.

So...if you need to switch a bunch of patches and you don't have stuff playing out that you need through Omni you can deactivate the channel(s) Omni is sitting on, switch your patches, and then reactivate and that should decrease the glitches.

The best though is switching patches with the Omni TR app for iPad. I still get a glitch once in a blue moon, but its very very small, doesn't show up on the recording and I've yet to have anyone notice it yet who wasn't performing the set with me.

Really hope they fix the multi switching and patch switching glitches in a later update. My live sets tend to hover between 40-70% CPU with drums and ~4 patches latched which is what I tend to keep as my maximum....latching 8 complex patches all with orb modulation and whatnot definitely makes my computer antsy.            If you want to make an apple pie from scratch...you must first invent the universe

Amen on the FM capabilities, I use Omni all the time and keep finding new ways of doing crazy stuff with it. Likely the best synth investment I have ever made...           Upavas - Here And Now (Sangoma Rec.) new EP out Oct.29th, get it here:
