First of all i would like to say that i used the search button But i didnt find the answer i was looking for.

_______________________________________________________________

Hi, do you know "Kode IV - Insane"? It was released in 1992. And it must be, if not the oldest, it shure is one of the first Goa releases out there i think. And in 1993 we got the wonderful releases of "Juno Reactor - Transmissions" and "Eat Static - Abduction".

My question/goal is to find the earliest release of Goa/psytrance ever. Do you know the answer to this?

.. goatrance .. ?
maybe The Infinity Project, "Hyperactive".
Officially released in 1991 on Atmosphere records (NY/USA),
also licensed and released in the UK at that time.

... goa ... ?
for some more early stuff yet less trance,
check the top 10 section, go for the last top
of Spindrift.
You'll find some good leads there!

I would say the first proper goa trance track to be released might be Overlords - Sundown 1990
Check out technoclub 2 comp (new zone) from 90, it has a few proper goa tracks.
Also much of the stuff on TIP - Feeling wierd was a few years old when released.          (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

Astral Projection from 89?
What lable was that released on?
I didn't know they made goa trance back then.
At least I never heard about them until sometime 94.
Would be very interesting to hear what they did 89.

When we talk about albums I also only recall Eat Static and Juno Reactor from 93.
Eat Static did release a cassette 91 though "prepare your spirit", later rereleased.
That would be one of the earliest produced goa trance albums i'm quite sure.           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)

First, Mr. Use the Search gave me those threads relevant to your issue :

Second, in early 90's, the frontier (assuming that there was even one) between Trance, Acid Techno and "Neo" Indus was very very blurry.

Kode IV was an Indus band, with an Indus sound before Goa Gil joined them. AFAIK, their first "Goa" album was Silicon Civilisation, in 1994.

Two great pioneers indeed. First hit for Juno Reactor was Jungle High in 1992 (without mentioning his numerous previous electronic projects of course). As for Eat Static, formed in 1989, I consider they were making Acid Techno until 1992, when their EP Almost Human came out. The same goes for Astral Projection who turned their Indus sound into Goa in 1992 with Allah Acbar.

For me (and I guess, no I'm sure everyone on the psy community has a different opinion on the subject), it's The KLF - What time is love (Pure Trance version) released in october 1988 if I remember well.

It's actually amazing how blurry the lines was between the genres in the end of 80's.
You have Acid, Electronic Body Music, New Beat, Techno all really becoming widespread terms around 88.
I guess it must been hard at the time to try to fit all this types of music in to all these new genres.
A group like Nizer Ebb I have seen on with very similar tracks on compilations called things like "Balearic Beats", "Club Wave 1", "Toco House Hits", "Techno House 3", "Technoclub - Classix Vol. 1", "Best Of EBM & Electro Vol. 1", "A Decade Of Ibiza".
Apperently the same track could be called techno, house, EBM and Balearic Beats at the time

@Jeff
I was thinking to put some KLF in the goa roots top I did. That is definatly a classic, and the hook is the de facto acid hook. What I have heard it's originally from "Jesus Christ Superstar" the musical by andrew loyd webber.
Like you said, as always when you discuss genres it's pointless trying to say that you can really say what was the first track. Of course everyone have their own definition of a subjective thing like that.
Although I don't know if I really listened to the specific mix you refer to, I wouldn't classify "What time is love" as full goa trance, but definatly an important influence.

But, what I would like to know, since you seem quite knowledgable about this period; do you happen to know who made the first track with that hook?
It was many tracks around 88 and after with the same hook, and the first one I can remember was called "Acid Rock", but by who I can't remember.

Oh no....I become just like my father and his friends when they discuss old jazz music.

I wasn't aware of this fact. I'll dig deeper I think. Thanks for the info.

The version I mentioned doesn't contain any rhythmic section, it's much more like an ambient track, but there's an acid pattern which sounds so Psy that I consider it as the first proto-Goa track.

I'm not sure to understand which specific hook you're refering to...

A few other tracks for Psy history : early works by The Infinity Project (end 1989, never released AFAIK), or Electrotete (a certain Anjuna Dawn EP released in 1991, if I could get my hand on this one...)

Like i said, it was in many tracks at the time, the main hook in "KLF - what time is love".
For many years into the nineties you could hear the same hook recycled in loads of tracks.
Basically if you have a keyboard around, it's just d#1, d#2, d#1, d#2, d#1, e, c#1, c#2, c#1, c#2 in a fairly straight rythm and you will recall it.
Anyway, i was just fishing if anyone remember what what the first track with that hook. Was it "acid rock" and who made it?

And if you haven't, check out this comp I mentioned earlier....a few really old goodies on it:

Back in 1989 there was one of the first New Beat anthem called "Acid Rock" by Rhythm Device. Don't know if it's the one you were thinking about though.

The answer to the first track with your hook may lie in this comp : http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0000669O9/metasoul/102-7565274-1152107

Yep...thats the one.
Looking at discogs i realize that it indeed seems like KLF was the first to use the hook. I must have not heard it first when it was released, and it seems like most versions of that track was released 1990           (``·.¸(``·.¸(``·.¸¸.·`´)¸.·`´)¸.·`´)
