hmmm.. Spindrift and Jeff, very interesting stuff you guys write about. I enjoy reading it very much. To bad i realy can contribute. 
But, I get the feeling that the pioneers in psytrance. I mean the artists that made psytrance/Goa big in the first place where acts like, Hallucinogen, Astral Projection, Eat Static, MWNN, Zodiac Youth (Devils Circus  ) and Juno Reactor. Why i say that? Because thats the artists that i always used to hear about before I my self fell in love with psy. And before i loved psy i didnt know any facts. But those are the artists that i can recall was mentioned the most. Ergo, are these artists considered as the groundbrakers/pioneers/the ones that made psytrance/Goa big in the 90th?
Sorry if my question seemes childish and uneducated. But you got to remember that i live in Norway where psy is and has always been a small small part of the community. So the information that I have learnd and experienced throuout the years might be wrong  And I have never been a computer "geek", so I havent had the opertunety to share my thoughts with "more experienced psytrancers", untill now .. Since i wrote that i should also tell you shortly when and why i became so much inlove with psytrance.
2000, my friend downloaded music from "Infected Mushroom" (witch was 100% unformiliar to us at that time) .. We had also ordered Mexican Mushrooms from Denmark. After that experience, I was deeply addicted to the sound of psy.

The artists you mentioned are/were involved in the scene at its beginning. The previous posts dealt more with "who wrote the first proto-Goa tracks ?". Here, there's no doubt anymore : Hallucinogen, Astral Projection, Eat Static made Psy Trance at the time.
Some believe Hallucinogen was the original pioneer of Psy Trance, as opposed to Goa Trance, because he first put aside simple melodies and focused on more twisted sounds and intricated layers.
In the second part of the 90's, I guess Astral Projection were the most renowned act in the scene. I even met people who thought AP were the only band to play Goa Trance. MWNN is a similar case for England.
As for Eat Static and Juno Reactor, they belong to a category of their own IMO. Even though I'll verge on caricature by saying that, but for me "High Energy Proton" already contained 50% of all the Psy sound which would appear in the 90's. The musical spectrum of Eat Static and Juno Reactor are much much larger than Psy Trance (Ben confessed to have grown tired of Trance. The fact is that he always was more interested in movies. Well, you know how it ended/started).
For me, it's like JR and ES came there around 1993, made some of the best Psy tracks ever, said "ok, that's good, let's move on to something else now". And the seeds began to grow.
