i used to get vaccines before i go to asia earlier - but for hepatitis and other stuff. this year i think i am gonna skip them. the conspiracy is big right now - i am not afraid of the swine flu but i am afraid of the poison they put into the vaccines.

i was reading a great book by http://www.duerigen.de/ and his wife katharina. it is full of great photos and interesting facts. there i read about the special epidemy hospital teams for kumbha mela and also about the fact that in 2007 the sadhus threatened the indian government to commit a collective suicide if the river ganges is not cleaned from toxation. i remember in 2007 that they even refused to bathe in the places where they used to because they were afraid of polution and viruses...

lets hope for a clean kumbha mela this time.

and once more - please please feel very welcome to contact me if you are heading to kumbha mela. i am kind of not sure that it is safe for a woman alone to go through the 30 million people. well of course it is not safe, there is no question. but i will have to make it anyway. worst thing with travelling alone is the big possibility that you lose all your things or get them stolen...

stay in India for sometime and ur body gets used to it and ur immune system will actually get better... don worry abt any stupid viruses... (unless u have some major allergies and ur immune system is screwed up) But yeah u need to take care of basic cleanliness sometimes n that shud be fine... Come with a clear head n happy mind n experience the magic

yes, you are right.
after spending a few months in any place, our immune system gets much stronger in this particular place. but the first few weeks can be very dangerous.

this is why in any given place on the planet, it is always the people coming from far away the ones who get ill first:). you can make your immune system stronger with zink additives for a couple of weeks, but this is not enough....in any harsh circumstances you will have problems if you are new to the place and come from the other hemisphere....
my main problem is that i am gonna try to go to gangotri. this is very far away up in the mountains and i guess it will be really cold. but as i am alone, i will have to carry too much on my back ( especially the camera and the harddiscs to store the material i am filming), so it will be hard to take enough clothes. i guess i will have a big problem with the coldness. but anyway, i will do this journey the way it is. hoped to find someone to come with me but i guess this is not the plan of the "architect":)

also another issue that i am more concerned about is that i will need a proper cam for high in the mouuntains ( most equipment will not work in such height). but i will work for some more money till the end of the year and then buy the necessary things for travelling in the himalayas. this is why i dont start the journey right now, but will stay here two more motnths and save money.....

which camera u talking bout??
i've been using camera's at even 16000ft altitude i neva had ne problems!!
the only problem is the batteries! they seem to die quicker in the cold so to counter that u have to take extra batteries & also dont forget if ur battery dies on u & u dont have ne spare at that time jus take the battery out & put it in ur arm pit to heat it up for few mins., next thing u know it starts working absolutely fine

for carrying to much weight on ur shoulders in gangotri, i dont think it's really an issue as u'll have many porters there if u feel the load is to heavy.
one more thing u can hire an room in gangotri & keep luggage there & take only wot is necessary to gaumukh.           the problem with valuing art is, till u dont understand it, it's worthless but wen u do understand it, it's priceless!!

i am talking about a panasonic hand cam which is not specially made for extreme weather.
the last cam that i had ( i am talking about a film cam) was destroyed in a height of 2900 meters last summer, after i slept in a tent in this height. it was very cold in the night and even the walls of the tent were covered with water from the inside after i woke up. after that the cam did not function any more. so i wanna be more careful this time.

as a matter of fact i am also looking for people involved with filming, who are already in india, so that we may be cooperate a bit. i could probably even get some very insignificant sponsorship from an institution for media ethnology ( not sure, i am trying right now), so that i could pay to those ppl a bit for being part of a team. what i wanna film will be around my article " nectar of immortality" that i already published earlier in isratrance. so if you or any friends of you are interested, may be just connect me. not promise much money though, depends on the next few weeks.

another thing. i was having a very strange conversation yesterday night with a good female friend of mine. she has a very strong intuition and is also one of my best friends because she is involved both in entheogens and in doing tv media ( political shows). she repeated many times that it is very very dangerous to do this the way i want. i respect her words always because she has great intuition and is also a world traveller. dont know, i guess it is always dangerous to be in the mountains alone. i had one time, when i got lost in a mountain and walked there for a whole night without light or clothes, it was realy an extreme experience. at the end i reached a monastery after my feet were already covered in blood from walking through the forest. dont wanna repeat the experience again....

so once, more , one more call. call me if you are interested to go to these sacred places. nice to know that there are porters, but i hvave always felt extremely bad in india to give luggage to those porters, i felt like i am using them as donkeys. very bad feeling. i am not such a type that likes to be helped....but anyway, better than nothing i guess. unfortunately i have a very unhealthy back because of back traumas with motorcycles.

well i'm photographer myself (not an pro but an serious hobbyist) i've an dslr (canon eos 5D) which i've taken across the Himalayas rite from spiti to Valley of Flowers, & as far as the technical knowledge i have i have never read an reported failure of an camera (movie or still) coz of 'Altitude' maybe ur camera failed b'coz of the cold but b'coz of altitude i think not!

for the extreme cold ur talkin bout u can protect it in proper casing as to not let the frost get to the camera.

p.s. my friend who was with me in aug. to Hemkund had an movie camera with him which worked absolutely fine even at 15000ft which near bout eqvivalnt to the altitude of gaumukh           the problem with valuing art is, till u dont understand it, it's worthless but wen u do understand it, it's priceless!!

yes, i meant the cold weather and the air, and not the height and attitute itself:). sorry if i did not put it right in the hurry. i am worried because of the weather and not because of the attitude of course:). ( although an attitude might logically have some effect on the lenses though)

well the kumbha mela starts on january and is till april. i will not stay all the time during this months. only for short. i could go also later.
if anyone wants to find me because of the walk, you know how to find me. on my website you find also skype and msn.

i am heading this week to the balkans. i might probably go on land to india - it is more near.

cant stay even a week more here where i am.

sure kumbha will be gr8 filming saints who only come down from himalayas for this kumbh mela only which is held in haridwar as rest other places of kumbha are very far from mountains.....
its very difficult for u to go up high altitude before april - may .....
the villagers who stay at altitude come to lower villages......
after april the first to go up are the shepherds with loads of sheep to glacier snout to different meadows grazing n return back after winter sets in sep-oct...
very very cold 100%
carry solar charger for treks.....
have a gr8 trip and good filming the sacred......

Suprised no one mentioned Ladakh. You can get there from Manali until about October/November maybe otherwise it will have to be from Srinagar if you want to go by road that is.

hehe time is flying, dear isratrance fellows and felloweens.

here we are, one year later in the same topic.
who was in india last year?
i was not because:
- a family member died one year ago, very soon after i started the topic here, so i was emotionally and financially not in best situation
- and after all, i still hope to get the project about the nectar of immortality financed by some institutions. for this you usually need to wait some time, till the right institution agrees on your project. then you can do much much more - take some more camcorders and travel more around.

my plan is still to finish the search for the nectar of immortality. i plan to start in kalkutta this time. from there to ganghotri. as far as i can predict, it will be done in april or in march. i hope so. winters are terrible in the north and i havent seen india since a long time....also this time in comparison to last year i am emotionally ready for a longer period that i can stay in asia. not sure if only india or also thailand but lets see.

it will be great to persuade the authorities that the nectar of immortality and soma are important themes to be filmed.

so, next step is kalighat. hope for more support by the star constellations. someone would be there?
