I used to have the same problem couldn't stand the new happy wave of progressive; I was frustrated at every party. And believe me if you thing it is bad in Israel, you can not even imagine how it was in Denmark (Copenhagen). Bongo music allllll night long… But then I don’t know how it happened, Í fell in love with those crazy drums and those soft melodies……

If You can’t beat'em join’em, now i'm a bongo slave.

Well, I used to enjoy all the nice soft fluffy progressive music. Until one day I just listen to a few older tracks, and it was just like waking up in an instant. Then I went over the fluffy tracks... What was I thinking to myself?

Sure, some fluffy grooves (I wouldn't go so far as to call Vibrasphere's drums as 'crazy', that would just be an insult to acts like XV Killist, or even Infected Mushroom) with the sunrise will get me smiling, and I'll enjoy them. But you can't enjoy a sunrise properly without it coming as a contrast to something. If it's not a contrast to dark droning, then I just hear it for what it is - progressive house with a structure that seems more intelligent than it actually is, with more reverb and delays to make it sound 'open air' and some sounds people don't use in the house world.

Ohh yeah, and those chord stabs just sound cheap.

If you can't beat them, change the rules of the game so you will. I'll listen to some harsh droning now.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Hey guys... I really think that everything can fit if it placed right.. ok? Phillip if these chord stabs give u the creeps, I dont know how to tell u what the super overused 16th sequences of one-half-of-a-tone-down and three-halves-up do to me. I believe that these ones u like very much since that is half of the 'big secret' called Goa Trance music. The other 'half' of a secret is to DO IT RIGHT.

To do it right only a few know, because to copy everybody knows. So please... and it also goes for Phillip's plead in D-Nox's thread.. Comon guys - every thing is so good when is done right... Even Mozart and Bach did the same old thing some 100 times but they did it right

Be open minded - and u find those trax where the chord stab fits well           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

I truly believe that every thing that is done right is great. of course, no?

but, chord stabs are overused.... and maybe u can explain to me why they are projecting a club feeling to me. I don't know why. (or maybe i do)

and of course what u said about the 1st half of the secret of goa.... not so true but i'll let u get away with that for now just because I know that we all trying to burry goa in this forum anyway. (not me)

At least change the stabs, don't make it the same C Minor. In jazz they use bizzare chords - fun.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

Once again I have to say.. The fact that stabs are C-minor or are clubby doesnt mean they cant be used successfully and fit very well any psy track, in the same manner that psy melodies entered not too hard into the clubbing scene and got as far as Madonna.. Phillip - most of ex Goa trax are written in minor scales and this is a fact. Also, most of Goan melodies or harmonics are using the pattern I talked about earlier.. At some stage it was overused as much as the stab u dont like so much, and that is the true reason btw, behind the death of Goa trance - it has died because it became boring and there was no melodic innovation so the natural progress was to look for the magic that is between the sounds and the tracks became more minimal, with more gentle synth touches ( stabs too ) instead of synth riffs that don't let no place for imagination at all. I agree that the stabs are overused, but so is the 'Red Hot Chilli Peppers' groove ( u can smell it coming from miles ) and still there is demand for it ..

Bottom line, my friend, is that every one ( sorry for the generalization ) that makes music comes to stage his creative career that he takes the track apart in his mind and judges every thing without connecting to the whole. After that comes a time that is much more liberal, and u understand that there are no rules, and every sound is OK if the context is right!           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

trip, seems to me u know very small part of club music and speak like u know lot. club music is a biggest source nd industrie, going from x to y, alot of gernres, styles, sub genres and experements. dont u want to sy they all use those stabs ??
dont be lazy, go get u some different sounds. if u hear stbs in every track that is not psy trance, so or u hear very few only or u too lazy open your eyes.           Believe your soul !

nectarious - agreed obviously.

Zombi - I know my field just fine - not an expert on club, but have some minor knowledge which helps me see things. I don't think you should bother on me too much.

Yuli - how come goa trance didn't evolve beyond the regular melodies u mentioned? I think you can insert any melody into trance in order to make it sound 'goa' or just melodic psy trance or whatever. (i.e: prometheus)

yes I want innovation, no I don't like to get stuck on one thing, and if I remember correctly, in the past days many tracks were different from each other - which is not the case today since i am listening to what is going on at parties.

And if we go back to the topic, I think today there is much less morning music that is played in the morning. it's all banging bassline - which isn't making my body take off anywhere.

cheers.           Crackling universes dive into their own neverending crackle...

hello.
i don't think it got nothing to do with the artist them selfs.music is music ,and its a shame to hear that artists changing style to somthing that doesnt come from the heart just to get more bookings....
but the party orgenizers should decide what kind of music should be in the party and to start 'educate" their ppl about how its gonna be...(domo rec. paly only progressive at theirs -for example, so u get no suprises).
so party producers- make a move -build your own style

Candy no worries, "proggressive" night music is on the way... darker than the night itself... And harder for that matter...

i love candy
