imho, I havent really noticed any decline or incline of the progressive trend (around here ) progressive house and progressive trance sound so much alike its hard to pick the difference. Hard House is also considered progressive, and to others its happy hardcore. so put the genre thing aside and get to basics.lets look at breaks. house and trance all as one for the time being, electronic music. simple progressions make people jam out and get into a groove easier than a 9 minute song tht is more of a story. alot more DJs who are career DJs make a better living from spinning progressive music. Progressive isnt really a genre of music anyways. its a progression inside the track itself that makes it progressive by using a combination of chords. there is also progressive rock and roll and so on. Simplicity makes for pop makes for more cash flow by having songs played in the clubs and on the radio by top name DJs vs the guys in forests jammin out on acid. Dont forget, Musicians are not just artists this is how we choose to make a living. Its just like any other job some just enojoy theres more than others. So using some business skills and risking a few pissed off fans that are still going to buy your next album to see if it got back to the roots or not is just nature of the business. Just look at Pink Floyd, our stars of psychedelic sell out. Just a perspective.

First of all, why is psytrance becoming mainstream bad? More sells for psytrance.

Second, when artists stay with the same thing you diss them and say that they go mainstream and commercial (GMS, AP). When artists change their style you say that they go mainstream and commercial.
You're just contradicting yourselves. Actually you shouldn't care about the name. You should care about the music. Either you like it or not. So you liked X's first album but not the second? Buy the first one. Don't buy the second just because X made it.

I think this is a complex thing, yeah, there's lack of money involved, there also personal artistic change of interest, there are deadends in music also. It's natural and that's how it flows.
You like something- buy it, support it- there will be more of it, that's how I see it.           ---------------------------------------------

Agree with Sharhar on the change of interest and deadends..
You do the same thing over and over and your headspace defnitely get trapped .. making another style of music can develop skills that you may not have found .. and if they return can create a development/evolution.. keeping it fresh doesn't mean stuck in a genre/style

But it’s not that they are creating a new music style. This style was already there! It’s not some kind of new house, it’s pure house!
They are just changing direction.

Mike, I don’t expect that the c.d I buy from an artist would be similar to the previous one. But I know more or less what style he plays. If one artist would suddenly change its style I can understand, but this seems like a plague.

It's not that they are creating a new style of music but on a personal musical journey for the artist they are exploring new paths for themselves .. to bring back to their own perferred style .. like an oil painting artist explores new mediums .. a musical artist explores new styles to themselves

I think that mostly as an artist has to evolve to something and forget the off beat bass for a while and in my opinion that should come again some day ,when the artists that are on top of this phenomenon get bored making some 130 Bpm tracks and start thinking in off beat again at 138 bpms, for me at this moment i can say graces for the variety of music in our scene and the good quality of some .I personnally like very much of deep house with some emotional parts on it ,and what better than to have the two worlds in one !!!

I also saw one top ten from Deep Dish a while ago
with a Chab track on it (wich is pretty nice to see)
maybe guys like SBK and Haldolium want to have some better liv$es themselfes and buy more gear to the studio and travel in executive class to go to live perfomances and to get an expensive car with the money from they work ,to me that is not a crime though its a person decision and has a person myself i must respect it and thats it .If i dont like House i will not buy the Album ,Bottom line if they are changing theyre style others will come to fullfill the blank space left by the ones who "Leave"!!!

Cheers

being exposed to a lot of new sounds lately I can tell you that there's hope for us psy-trancers, there's a new style evolving-
minimal progressive full-on, it minimal and progressive of course with influences from techno and house of course but its really pumping!!
There's still hope people!! trance, and its agreed upon all, is an evolving genre anyway you look at it, so my guess-it will bring surprises and new experiences all the time

surprises are not allways good

So how should we call new SBK's album style? I sure don't wanna little 'evolving' kids calling it psytrance.

I just don't want the trance artists to go 'evolving' as you call it all together to this 'evolved' prog-house style - and keep calling it trance.

If they want to 'evolve' to that direction, fine, do it - I won't listen to it much - but please don't call this psytrance or 'evolved' psytrance - and stop selling it on psyshop.com - which is my previous thread point also.

Most of the music people are talking about isn't psychedelic. Therefor, we should stop calling it PSYtrance. It's not. Nadi: progressive minimal full-on.... do you mean Krumelur?           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222
