Hallo everybody…just was wondering what your opinion is about more and more ppl moving into the progressive scene from psy trance. And I mean the real progressive scene (Nukem, Chab, Marc O Tool, Satoshie Tomiie etc…)
Personally i found my self into this as a natural progression of my 9 years journey into psy trance music. It was like a river that was flowing and it ended up into progressive… similar I saw and see many ppl having the same way as me (before and after me. Some ppl who did this first and influenced me are Xavier and Mark Allen. On the opposite ppl from the more full on goa scene are taking a turn back past and try to keep same the more full on psychedelic sound. What’s your opinion to this phenomena??? For my self I have taken a one way ticket to this journey of music….don’t like to see things repeating so I go further…I just keep my values. Psychedelic is a higher state of emotions and feelings, a mystic journey… and can be found or created in every music you want!

Which side you are???

I find there are 2 progressive sides.
a. the housy
b. the psychedelic.

By housy I mean this new progressive that is growing so fast now like Haldolium, Mark Allen etc. etc.

I'm much more into psychedelic progressive, such as Mumbo Jumbo, Highpersonic Whomen etc. etc.           Majority is never right!

i don't really care much about the direction it's taking. for me it's all about the present. i also don't like to focus on sertain bands or styles. if it sounds good to my ears, then it's good.

I am fully agrre with the Damage, for me it is not about the "direction" or "style". There are trax that "do it" for me, and there are that don't...
That's all...

Let it be more good music, doesn't matter if it is progressive, minimal or full on. I just want a "story" to be told by the DJ...           -=Lead System Designer=-

I guess I have also found myself leaning more and more towards the more housey/progressive side in my tastes. I don't know if it is intentional or anything, but when I look at my purchases over the last year it is mostly progressive, house, breaks, with a sprinkling of essential full-on craziness. There are certain undefined elements that "do it" for me, and they usually fall in the more progressive side of things (although I find them in the entire range of the spectrum).

But in the end, it does come down to buying/playing what I like...there is good in every style. I may buy/play mostly progressive style, but it doesn't keep me from belting out some stormers when the time is right.

Define your style based on what you like...don't define what you like by what style it is.

the morning side of progressive is golden... the sort of mid-level moods can bore me though. 12 moons is more my style than antix, for example... but i'm glad this music has come around, even if I only enjoy a sliver (but how!)..

i think that this new trend towards progression can be explained due to the fact that all the possible extremes have been covered, now its time to do something in between.

Psychedelic trance is very extreme at some points, very fast, very wild, and i can understand why people could get tired, especially when you grow up.

personally im still in the extreme , for the dancefloor id rather listen to skazi than to haldolium. but ive learned to like a lot of psychedelic progressive trance and i found that there are very interesting and nice tracks made in that style.

but regarding to proggressive house, i think that these style is too simplistic, too commercial and too boring.

Progressive music has nothing to do with getting tired or not. It started out as a way to develop ideas in a deep way, use the order of the track to pass something extra into your head. Progressive trance eventually grew to be a subgenre on it's own, not just part of the general psychedelic trance (in 1997 if you'd play progressive music, it would still be called psytrance, not progressive)... and somehow it lost it's way - instead of using the structure in order to be deeper, people thought - well, it's progressive already, why not make this housier, so people can enjoy some fluffy grooves.

That's when I got pissed off, and stopped listening to the MPDQX releases. I'm sorry, I listen to progressive because it's deeper and can be VERY psychedelic. You make it housier and not as psychedelic, I might as well listen to full-on, at least it has it's moments.           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222

Somehow I agree with you Kiou but I have also one question:
why you ask people that belong to psy trance to give you music for booking them in samothraki?
why on this festival are not booked progressive bands?
just wondering

the river that Kiou talk about took me nowdays into glitch techno, minimal deep house and idm, break beats and freestyle..
a year and half before i was in love with UK and Progressive house ala Nukem and Mark O'Tool, but its gone for me.. its maked me understand i can live freely and happy without hard psy so i just switched into more for the brain music, wicked and sick house music ala isolee, clicks music, glitchs, everything that realy play wirth your mind and realy high quality produced..
but in parties i sure more than happy to hear Nukem and Healey tunes (and their dj techniques).
its natural get boring from one style, in fact in last three years i travel around whole electronic music and get mucho fun of it, include synthpop and electro of course
from trance i sure prefer progressive side, melodic if possible:)

kaz - we already been talking about it, mpqdx is not all the progressive, u somehow know stuck on same names for too long.. search and try.. there is so many different progressive trance, hope u r not blind and will find it.. good luck..           Believe your soul !

Zombi: you know my taste in progressive - I'm much more into Spirit Zone/Plusquam, ZMA and a few others - but even then I tend to pick out the fluffy stuff. Just because progressive isn't full-on, doesn't mean it doesn't have to have long and sharp teeth and blood in the eyes           http://www.myspace.com/Hooloovoo222
