Since Boom Festival 2000, i'm one of the most HAPPY & "Frustated";) Human Beings on Planet Earth
In a short period, i searched & discovered in this INFINIT World so much truly fantastic MASTERPIECES, than almost in all my Life before !!! So, i'm HAPPY
Actually, i'm totally amazed though, on the other hand, i also feel a kind of "Frustation" which is really annoying
Authentic "Pieces of Art" that should be listened & appreciated by MILLIONS and what we realize is Labels with serious finantial problems (and not only) because they just sell 250/500/1500/2500 Copys and almost noone talks about some incredible musical Works
And some Musicians (fortunately, not all) that we hugely admire, can't even achieve a decent Life from its natural REMARKABLE Talent
yeah yeah, i know it's Underground
Excuse me please, can't resist...

Speaking for myself, no problems at all if my favourites Artists (and the other ones) are pretty famous, are having fun playing around the World, are winning LOTS of money or if they simply are...VERY HAPPY, you know ?
At least, so happy as i feel with their > WONDERFUL "Creations"

Well...Nevermind !

"In 1 Month, saturday the 10th of may, Tiėsto will give a concert performance for 25.000 in one of Holland“s biggest stadiums. This first danceconcert in the world is sold out.

One month before the event takes place, all tickets to the much discussed event, are sold. That DJ Tiėsto is going to have the honour is of course beyond all doubt. The Dutchman has won nearly every award in both the Dutch and global dance-scene, with the USA Dancestar award, as his latest trophy, which he won during the Winter Music Conference in Miami last month.

The preparations for “Tiėsto in Concert“ are in full flight and Tiėsto himself is much involved with the production. This is going to be the most beautiful performance of my life, so everything must be perfect. I have been looking forward to it for months now according to the worldfamous DJ.

With his artist-album 'In My Memory' in all the international dance-charts, his diverse style and his much respected choice of music, he is the person to stage such an event."

Media Cornern Productions is there with 17 video cameras. The gig will be shown live in Europe, North America and Asia..

that's commercialism my friends.. I hope this will never happen to our scene.. it's just.. well I wouldn't be suprised if Tiesto was to play some Astral Projection, Yahel, Infected Mushroom, GMS, etc tracks..

I was reading somewhere, that if Pink Floyd would start out today, they would never make it.

I think that's what is wrong today. Commercial music today does generally not reflect "good music"

So actually if our favourite trance artists would have some commercial success, then this would and could actually change this sorry state of the music industry.

Why not believing that something good, something we like could also have huge commercial success. Let's be positive here, - it's in our own interest!!!

Why wouldn't we wish our favourite artists some luck, that they could actually make a good living out of their hard work, which we enjoy so much ?

of course, it's a blessed thing. but if the money will ruin the creativity and art of that same artist, then all my apreciation to him will be gone.           REHAB is for quitters

Even with countless problems, there are many examples of Labels & Musicians which have been doing an AMAZING Job, in my opinion !!!

How all these guys "survive"
Honestly

However, i guess somehow the words LOVE, imagination, creativity, dedication & LOTS of hard Work, among others, should be related in a possible answer, i don't know.

My point is not about the music be made for money proposes only
Anyway, we gotta wake up and understand that, without money, our beloved Artists (as well as everybody) simply can't move on and give us what we really want/need.
What i'm saying is that to sell, in the Trance World (at least), such "MUSEUM Pieces" shouldn't be a real problem.
But it is
Better face it.

By the way, it was mentioned Pink Floyd...
Pink Floyd is not, even nowadays, one of the most profitable "Companys" in the history of the musical Industry ?
The music itself, is better or worse because of that fact ?
And if those awesome "MONSTERS";) was Underground (as they were, at the beginning) it wasn't quite sad if we didn't have the GREAT LUCK in knowing them ?

That's EXACTLY why i consider myself a SUPER LUCKY guy for having discovered Trance music from where it's possible to "extract" (as you know) among many many different emotions, continuous OVERDOSES of the most captivating combination of "Energys" that we can get:

I would like to refer you to Yaniv (Cosmophilia) article on the last (?) Mushroom magazine about labels, distribution and artists in the trance scene.
As a member of a running label, I can see the disillusion of many ppl who consider us a commercial scene - we can barely call ourselves a scene.
And as I wrote before, once u become a manufacturer (of music or parties), u need to sell your product. The thin line is knowing when the formula is overused and when the innovation becomes just another tune among same.

c'mon folks, everyone knows that music never has and never should be about making money... it's all about the groupies!

that having been said.. there are lots of musicians that never make much money selling records, but still manage to do alright by performing @ live events. unless an artist has some stake in the label that is releasing their music, the royalty percentage that they receive for their music is usually pretty pale. conversely, when an artist is booked to perform live, they get compensed in a much more direct fashion for doing something that they are passionate about. the grateful dead never really sold a ton of records, but became one of the most profitable live acts in the history of touring...           michael

Bands that sell good and keep their creativity and freshness are rare.

Helen, I do think we have a scene. And it is a powerful and beautiful one. But we should look at the signs and reflect on them. It's up to all of us to keep it fresh and it's spirit alive and healthy.

I think we should give r artists a break they work very hard and constant to supply the trance community with good music, they also work very hard to put money in their pockets, Psy-trance DJ's and artists aren't overly paid in comparison to a majority of music scenes, and even if an artist was only making trance 4 money, so what as long as its good who really cares!
