Haha! Thanks to the world wide web they make less and less money! 
Well I guess it was always like that. Most of their money artists get on their gigs and not by selling cd's. (Not talking about the multiplatinum blah blah groups)

music is definetly not bout makin money...its about expressing ureself...freeing ureself...and the people around u....its meditation.....close to sex... not the same...but has nuthin to do with money....
sure..if u have the talent...to make kicki tracks...then yea...release it....not bout money...but survival...and havin a good time...

A. I'm not buying that "MP3 and WWW killed our scene" That's completely bullshit. I know dozens of ppl who wouldn't have the guts to go and buy Trance cd until they exposed to it from the web. I, myself had this negative opinion about Trance opinion and it's connection to Drugs and you know all the shit they feed you in media. The Internet and this site especially opened my eyes to this music, but not only. Also programs like Napster and Audio Galaxy R.I.P. played major role in my transition into Psy Listener. And yes i do buy Original CD's. I used to spent almost 100$ monthly on this addiction. Now less, but that's personal reasons.
B. I'm so f**king tired to hear this Commercial not Commercial discussion. It really hearts me to hear ppl bashing Infected for ex. for being "Commercial". You know what i want to tell the ppl who think this way? Infected are way too talented to fit their narrow mindnessness. I'm sure those ppl never tried to learn music or to create it. They don't know what the artist feels when he makes music. So what? Infected got tired of Trance music and decided to try something else. It's their god given right. Surely after their record in the scene.
C. All this efforts to be underground and to sound different in most cases are ridiculous. I've seen ppl praising music that sounds so different than everything else, that in most cases the term music doesn't impliable to it. Just Beats and bassline. They say it's abstract and shit like that. I admit, i don't understand it. It's like Cubism to me.
D. Commercial music can be good! Ppl that work with Britney Spears, Madonna and even, god forbid, Whitney Houston are mostly talented and trained musicians. I'm talking about Neptunes, Timbaland, BT, William Orbit and many more. The same goes for Psy Trance. Infected (again) worked with established and respected Israeli singer (Berry Sakharof). So what? Why some ppl think that it degrades them? Or the scene?
E. I often see ppl that say that those "commercial" collaborations ruin our scene and then easily go and burn themselves a copy of a compilation that released by one of those "exclusive" labels that they love so much.
F. Last thing. I also believe that the scene lacks good promotion, it deserves li'l bit more (positive)spotlight from the mainstream media. In Israel atleast it's tolerable but i think about the American dudes and wonder how could they maintain their scene if there was no Internet (which brings me back to paragraph A).
I better shut up by now, but i really had to say it.
I hope, really hope that the talented and interesting MUSICIANS will survive.

I just want to mention that not all cheesy trance is stupid vocals is cheesy trance with stupid vocals.
They have some really deep lyrics and flowing music in there. Give it a try

i totally agree with this...and it applies more so to trance..coz as someone here rightly said 90% of the people dont like it.
theres nothing wrong with infected or yahel going commercial...by which i mean changing their style to suit the tastes of masses so they can sell more....but in my head their music isnt psychedelic trance anymore...and in that sense...if they still call themselves psy artists,id rate their music as cheesy and commercial. i wouldnt if they classify their music in a different genre... simple as that!!! |

your whole approach is wrong.
music is not about money.
but if u just misexpressed yourself.
then nothing is wrong about making money our of music... on the contrary, its good. i realy wish that every artist could live from his art.
the problem is (at least from where i see it) is where the art becomes a secondary importance.
where art just stops "living" and become a "delivery" to the costumer/croud.

Nice thoughts all around here...
I think it´s about time to stop calling our scene or artists commercial. Let´s save this term for artists that spend thousands of dollars on marketing and earn millions per year...

Yes, I think hardly anybody in this scene can really live a very confortable life with the money they make.
I think "commercial" is good, if they quality doesn't suffer. If you are successful and sell millions of albums with a quality product, then great.
Remember Pink Floyd sold millions, so they were commercial, and so what ???

Well I would love to see my fav artist's albums selling good so that they can buy loads of new synths, mixers, computers and other stuff and totally concentrate on just making music..

Sorry, but what about GMS? They've been doing the same things for years, and people are still eating it up like it was the best ever. And I can give a few other artists which recycle themselves over and over and people just LOVE it. They dance to it at parties, they don't care if it's exactly like an old track with different samples and slightly better production.
