after reading some threads, ive noticed that at some parties djs actually play mp3s . how often this happens i have no idea (we are isolated living here in korea) but why do party promoters let this thing happen ?

a) if
it does happen quite often, are people unaware that they're listening to mp3s ?*(refering to the difference between a wav file and a mp3 file) so why care??

b)obviously some promoters dont give a shit about the artists hence these things occur .

c)theres noone with vinyl or original cds to play ?

perhaps alot of the blame should be pput on these on these promoters for letting djs play mp3s in the first place .

or they are happy to see a
bunch of people enjoying themselves at party listening to music no matter what form it is in ...

BTW i stand by vinyl, just trying to get different perspective on things. (from the promoters point of view and the visitors point of view)

why play cds when you have vinyl?
why play mp3s when you have cds?

long live vinyl....

Then Richie Hawtin, John Acquaviva, DJ Hell, Coldcut, Kevin Saunderson, are not serious DJs ?

i dont understand why people think anyone could be a dj, its not for everyone.

simply as driving a car is not for everyone, you dont steal a car cause u need one, u dont steal music cause u need to play it.

its not written anywhere that anyone could be a dj. anyone ever think of that?           "On the other hand, you have different fingers."

Playing MP3 doesn't mean the music is stolen. It means you can carry the equivalent of thousands of cds and vinyls in a small laptop instead of carrying huge boxes around. Some very serious DJs use MP3, because it makes their lives simpler, allows them to make more diverse mixes, find any track they want to play in 2 seconds, rescue some vinyls that were beginning to get old, open new mix possibilities... In short it helps them to be even better DJs.

This MP3-paranoļa has to stop !

Sorry mate but that does not make you a great DJ ! That only allow whoever wannabe DJ to do great automated mixes... To be a great DJ require a lot of hard work and tallent! NOT just to own a labtop with the latest DJ "Supersmart" MIX software.

As Surrender said it's not all that can be a DJ. And especially NOT a good DJ. Our little scene is for sure full of wannabe's in every corner possible

This MP3-stealing has to stop !

P.S. I seriously doubt that many artists with respect for their own music and work would give a DJ mp3 files of their tracks! If they ever wanted to give you music they would give you the real deal!

Well smart mr. E I gave Tim Sensient some of my tracks, and since we live several flight hours one from another, I sent him these in mp3 format.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman

Arn't you all forgeting something? Who really gives a shite what technique this or that DJ is using? The bottom line is whether the DJ connects to the crowd, makes it move and groove - it doesn't matter all the tech crap of frustrated DJ/Artist that because not so many ppl like their music start to look inside everybody else's pockets for flaws.
I personaly dont use this PC technique - I like spinning CDs too much - but I wont critisize anyone who does a good work for the crowd just because he/she plays this or that method.

About sound quality - it is true that MP3 lack in frequency range (because of compression, many freqs are simply dropped of the sound file, yes, even in 360Kbps). This is a different issue altogether. Again, personaly I rather not play MP3, but I would play a good track I have only on MP3, and fuck the principals.

This is music - its about fun and the crowd, not your ego.

Yuli, no doubt that you have respect for your music, and i understand you sending the tracks to Oz in mp3 form to another Artist.
(ps i heard them all they are wonderful)
This small circle of exchange is fine, since in a way its an innercircle, where all parties come from the same side.

most of the time, mp3 that are played in parties are from the net, downloaded by regular people who call themselves djs and play before the "innercircle" at parties or play all night at smaller local parties. this is where EP is actually right to say that the theft must stop, and the spreading with it.

Surrender, my post was only to backup mr. Sensient since he is a nice guy

About the mp3 thingy - I have a very stable point of view about this. You probably know it so there is no reason to go on about it..

But the only thing I can add, is that when two artists share music in mp3 format, we know that it is first hand mastered tracks. When u use kazaa or soulseek u dont know where is this music from, and sometimes it is really ridiculous sound quality and ppl still dj it.           A man with a "master plan" is often a woman
