I can tell the difference between 192 and 320kps mp3, but from 320 to a wav its much harder, really.

It is there mostly in low frequencies but its hard to notice it. Any way...

It would be vey nice if somebody came up with one of those graphics analizing frequency spectrum, comparing the same track in 192, 320 mp3 and wav. Then we will see how much we are loosing.

then most viewd videos are in quality of the 50's? that with wireless its almost like trying to catch TV with antena like old days?

well if you dl some shitty cam copy then off course but watched yesterday axxo rip on one missed call and i can say the picture and sound were 10/10 even though the movie was terrible(childs soul inside a mobile phone hunting people=hollywood runnig out of ideas)

first thing im sure going to the movies is better then your 10/10 , maybe like shahar said 'you dont know what u are missing'

i do go once in a while when there is movie that probably worth it.. cloverfield sounds like something to see on the big screen and not ripped at home... well going out is part of the expirience , it enhance it and make me enjoy more from the evening as well the movie with no phones or msn or anyone want something..

it probably exacly what i ment , the GREAT technology was here allready and we let it go for our comfort , ending up with less quality but more couch hours... evolution maybe or degeneration ... another topic i guess..

btw i have easier time to guess mp3 from wav at my studio then party systems (i think this why most producers complain , their speaker is that good to tell the diffrence..)

but in original post i was refering to youtube quality , which probably will improve in the next 10 years slowly untill all will have T3 connection etc. and then rips will be better also ... but what u think of it now ?? dont tell me axxo=dvd come on! sure not on nice lcd that is bigger then 32"

[/quote]no shit sherlock did i say otherwise i didn t compare it to going to movies....it was just my answer to your quality of the 50 s argument

and besides there where no tv in the 50 s maybe in america but in finland definetly no so how can there be quality of the 50 s since maybe 1/1000 owned a tv on that time

and about mp 3 vs wav debate i tested this morning a headphonics track(planet rock rmx)
first on bassoradio(streamed)after that on mp3(vbr) and finally on original cd and i honestly cant hear the difference but maybe i have listen so much bullshit in my life i have gone def(O_=)

When it comes to video it's a bit of a different story with all the bandwidth needed for good quality, and there I can agree that a lot of downloads and streams are really a disgrace to the content.

When you get a film in HD format or watch it at the cinema it's also compressed, and we are still very very far from getting anywhere near the kind of resolution we would need to get close to what we can perceive with our eyes.
I clearly prefer HD video, but since it take hours to download a 15Gb film while a 700Mb rip takes about 15 minutes, so I do find lower quality an acceptable trade-off sometimes.

But there has been a very good progress when it comes to watching video outside of the cinema.
Today's we have very good displays and storage mediums and a 700Mb rip beats a VCR by miles.

Youtube is terrible not so much from the technical limitations of the format they use.
Most videos is transcoded and they have severe limitations to filesize and resolution.
The flash player can play h264 video in the latest releases, so their player could deliver top quality video.
But I don't feel I can complain about the fact that we don't get good HD streams...one step at the time...I'm just happy that I get acceptable quality with online streams or when I download a movie in 15 minutes.

well atleast u agree its less quality

and all i was asking , do you really think it was worth it?

did u one time exited from ripped movie as much as going to the cinema ?

didnt going to the shop listen to few cds and choose one to take home was better connection with the music then d/l 20 albums a day and delete 100 a week?

for me , and yes im part of this scene like evryone else here , its less of experience.

i meen specialy with movies 'preview' is stupid since it ruins all.. if u d/l and see then u lost the reason to go to the cinema and enjoy it fully (even if u do then u already know the end)

did someone actually one time in his life stopped movie after watch 15 minutes and said "i wanna see this one in the cinema" ? or more likely someone said "damn this was one for the big screen , but ive seen it now what the heck"

and you know what , maybe same for music.. dont you all already know what to expect when you d/l the new hommega or iboga or parvati realese? u know 100%!!! its gonna sound just like the previous realese with slight better sound quality and maybe tiny bitsy more interesting.

so the element of surprise is gone , and with that the quality has dropped. real "high" tech.          www.sattelbattle.com

I sure think it's worth it to download films since it's quite a drive to the closest cinema from where I live and they have a very limited selection of films.
I get very good sound and picture at home, and can eat, drink and smoke what I want.
And the closest record shop with anything resembling a psytrance selection is a few hours drive away.
So obviously I prefer to access music and movies online, and I don't see how it takes away the element of surprise or would lessen my connection with the music.
If you live in a city and have close to cinemas and shops and prefer those, why not just go there instead of complaining that not everyone has the same priorities as yourself?

Claiming that the quality dropped is just wrong.
The quality in production from a technical perspective is higher, the storage mediums has improved and reproduction is better.
And that's regardless of if you look at the top-end, bottom end or the difference between the two.

All this technical quality discussion totally misses the point. The average listener or viewer of a movie could care less about the quality of the sound or the quality of the image, they only care about the quality of the content.
Blueray is just the next line in the marketting scam to sell you the same movie for a third time after having bought it on VHS, then DVD and now blueray. I wouldnt doubt its a market failure.
Before everyone listened to MP3s on their ipod they listened to music mostly on AM/FM radio. They only non musician/producer who actually cares about audio quality are these sexually repressed audiophile wankers.

Same thing with movies. There is a theater here who shows movies that are 6 months old for a dollar on a certain weekday night. The immersion of the big screen far out strips the enjoyability of watching anything on blueray, even though the picture quality is a joke compared to blueray.
