a weired situation here in s africa...
it is cheaper for me to order cds from germany (psyshop) than to by in stores locally.
and about the price thing im still in school so have to rely on pocket money for cds (and all other luxuries) so i can only afford to buy maybe 1-3 cds a month if im lucky... this is why i download mp3s.
another plus is im discovering new artists (wich i will support in the future by definetly seeing them if i get the chance) such as onnomon, who is f***ing brilliant!
any way im just repeating what others have said...

trade all you can and support those you want to support.

all of what i have read here is both right and wrong!
for some, mp3 is the greatest thing happend and to some its devasteting theire work of life... (but i think its mainlly helping this scene) so like every thing in life mp3 combine good and evil (ying yang)...
so stop argueing cuz u wont change no bodys opinion about this! people who buy will still buy people who download and then buy will still do it... and people that for some reasons dont buy will still just download!!!

Bahh, again people bickering about pennys.

AN ARTIST GET ABOUT $1 PER SOLD COPY OF AN ALBUM

Thats it, if it all works out ok, and many times they don't even get that, and have to wait for years for the money.
The label get a dollar as well.

Don't fool yourself and think you support artists by buying CD's. You mainly support shops and distributors.

SEND THEM A DONATION IF YOU FEEL SO SORRY FOR THEM

Or like basilisk said, go and see them live. They earn more money from that.

thats a very cool attitude spindrift......i guess u have have got it all right about what an true artist really is ...... iam sure psy artists who get booked at regular basis mae more money from live shows and gigs then the 1 dollar they get out of cd sales.......a regular artist get paid about 250$-1200$ for a gig.....iam sure thats a lot more money then say about 1000 cds sold.....

peace

BTW - i still believe that for the best sound u need audio cds not mp3 (big sound system + mp3 = SUCK)........but i dont see how mp3 other than the unrel tracks (which do effect the artist as no label would want them) shall destroy the scene............           New mixes on

I would like to know what's the numbers in your country.
Music is culture and culture should be available for everybody at a fair price.

in the netherlands the situation is kind of like how tsabeat sketched ...
500-600 euro average minimum a month, but cd's 19-25 each

yet i think, seen the world as "it is" today:
if u consider to buy a cd, you are rich
if u consider to go to a festival, you are rich
if u consider to get internet at home, you are rich

and therefore all of us out here are rich kids
- no posh uptown fat bloating rednecks or somewhere close to that
but rich with freedom to choose where to spend
those pieces of paper, that make people hallucinate
(no not the blots ..) as if these held a true value

& yes music is culture
and culture should be free
free from those pieces of paper
... but unfortunately, it will take some time
before bread & soundsystems become free too

untill then, i wish MusiCDock and like projects all the best!
