Protoculture - these days makes quite light stuff imo. sometimes some good clean groove, nice and spacey, often slightly fluffy

Broken Toy : chunky quirky groove. sometimes good power, not very spacey... not what i would call fluffy.

Silicon Sound.... used to be killerrr. (Pure Analogue was a really strong album) very layered intricate music. psychedelic. These days i find less depth in silicon sound... getting lazy?

Prometheus... very unique stuff. strong and groovy, lots of variations from track to track, wish he was making more.

Black & White. minimal full on. not fluffy, not very psychedelic, not very spacy. just black and white. clean groove and killer production quality

Son Kite. Spacey strong progressive. Not fluffy. Great control.... universal electronic psymusic.

@ Janux... I tend to disagree with you on your point regarding Silicon Sound. No doubt Pure Analog was a masterpiece, i still maintain its the best full-on morning album to date. As for his new stuff, i dont think its lack in depth really, dont you just see it as a change in style? Its more proggy/ ambient in nature. If you were to listen to his newer stuff very carefully it would seem obvious that the man is putting a lot of effort into his tracks. The atmospheres just sweep me away But its personal tastes i guess, but at the end of the day nothing can be compared to Pure Analog, still listen to it without getting bored

ditto.

Eagerly waiting for his next album though. I think his progressive side is awesome.

Sure there is more and more fluff. This is because more music that loosly fits into the category "Psytrance" is being released in general. Just compare this flood (2005, 2006) to the late ninenies upto 2002 maybe.

So we are dealing with "more of everything"....more good stuff, crap stuff, full on, dark..whatever. Its many of the djs who chose to overplay play crappy fluff to cater for the feint hearted or something. And the organisers who choose to overbook djs who have gained a reputation for playing

***FLUFF***

Moreover it is a clear sign and reflection of the ***FLUFFY*** time we live in

hmmmmmmm... you think we live in a fluffy time? I dunno about that.... turn on the t.v man, its all war & twisted games. but yes we do live in a more commercial time perhaps (and money isnt being made in noble ways)-- (others too have said that commercial & fluffy are the same thing)

i feel this commercial / fluffy time you say we live in is more a product of ignorance to the reality of the world we live in....
(i am not saying you are ignorant i am saying we are ignorant)

the illusion of happy times due to ignorance.... and often the ignorance is created by wealth...

or maybe... he he he people use 'fluffy' music to create a happy bubble in a not-so-happy world... i dunno...

and ofcourse in different regions of the world there are different psy musical tastes and different regions of the world have different social & political environments,

HAve you ever thought about comparing the music that people from a certain counrty like compared to the social & political & psychological environment of that counrty... check it out....

ok so you're being sarcastic? ok..

anyway, i would still like to point out that its interesting to sit down and think about all the countries / regions that have psy music following,

and then to look at the social-political-psychological environment, and the history of those countries and compare it to the style of psy that is most commonly liked there...

Is a nice idea Janux..would take a lot of work..maybe as a Master thesis in Psytrance sociaology or something^^

IMO would not really work....dont believe we would get much of a correlation. Maybe if we would link psytrance tastes and climatic conditions we would get better correlation:

"Too much sunshine (more than 210.57 days of sunshine per year) causes increased generation of ***FLUFF***). In regions with high rainfall and cloud cover auch as central Europe, Scandinavia and Russia, these conditions tend to lead to a more somber sound and indeed ocassionally ANTIFLUFF"

No seriously^^ I dont believe any study of this kind would show any serious connections.

@kazuku
travel around the world and go to trance parties in different countries, or observe the types of music that people from different physical / social / financial places prefer... . and you will def. see certain connections..

how else would you explain people from one country prefering a certain style of psy and people from another country prefering a different style?
(its more complex than just which country a person is from, but its the best way to start.... cuz then you deconstruct that particular country into certain factors and you will start to see the reasons)

Whine whine whine. More & more fluff? Well, don't like it? Seek other genres. If you want fluff-free music look into the hardcore scene for once. You might find what you're looking for there. Hard, relentless blasting bassdrums, hard leads, samples mostly taken from horror and action movies and underground rap etc. That's where the so called 'dark-psy' scene got all the ideas from really. (This does not mean I don't like some dark psytrance every now and again). But seriously. Try other genres. There's lots of fluff-free stuff out there if you know where to look.

And me? Hell, I like fluffy. If it's done well. For example, I'm listening to Groove Express - Parasol right now. (POTS guys were behind this project for a while) And this may sound fluffy to some people, but I truly enjoy this track. Most of you people always make it sound like 'fluffy' is a bad thing, but did you ever consider that it's only the opinion of someone? And you know what they say about opinions...           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

@acidhive

we're not whining....

if u read this entire thread, u will see that this discussion has progressed to where we are not complaining about fluff, but analyzing how different tastes come around, so we are obviously respecting all styles....

and you're telling me to switch to hardcore music if i dont like fluff.... if i was a dark music only fan complainging about fluff that would be different... but i'm not... i like morning and day full on stuff, and I'm talking about the difference of musical styles within that style... and have noticed that a certain type of music (what i call fluffy) within this style, is happening more & more....
