Man after getting into modular I'm now hearing so much of my music like its the first time & realizing how good or bad some artist's sounds are.
Having done some soul searching the only actually branded synth I'd consider (I got to play with a demo model yesterday) is the DSI Prophet 12. Though not pure analogue it's an absolute beast.
Once my modular is built & I've got some good monitors & my studio is properly adjusted with bass traps etc. I'll buy the Prophet 12. No need the. For any more hard synths ever IMO!

I haven't read the Roland Kuit books but here's a series of books that might be useful:
If you can find these two books, they can be useful as well:
Allen Strange - Electronic Music - Systems, Techniques and Controls
Serge Gold Book
A source of really good and free information is all of the Doepfer manuals. Each one usually has patch examples. The Doepfer line has a more traditional naming convention so it can a lot easier to figure out what a slew and cycling envelope generator is doing compared to what a Maths is doing.

Ataraxic Translatron. Some great sounds from this, almost reminds of some of Sandman's video game based dark goa/psy back in the 90's.
Already had a chat with the bloke designing mine to put at least one of these in the rack, reckon it'll add loads of fun & character for a cheap price!

So here is a picture of the modular I'm building. Already bought a few of the top rack parts.
I'm going to build a completely different unit for drums and some extra FX etc. in the future. Samples work fine for now.
casing will be a second hand Doepfer 9u Suitcase I found dirt cheap in mint condition locally. The cover will be good for keeping little hands out with my son, and the wheels will be handy for moving it around the house.
Drag it upstairs for fun time when kids are down in the lounge room Cuntus Maximus.
