I haven't really kept up with much metal in recent years, but for sure my music is massively influenced by all the stuff I listened to in post-adolescent existential crisis years.

Some of my favorites:

Black Sabbath, VoiVod, Godflesh, Slayer, Kreator, Prong, Celtic Frost, DRI, Suicidal Tendencies, Obituarary, all the sf bay area metal stuff from the 80s like Death Angel, Testament & Forbidden; Noise Rock stuff like Chrome and the Swans are a big influence.....for new stuff I like Dillinger Escape Plan, Isis and the new Jesu album....

Sun Project is the perfectd ed. of this topic.

They were a metal band before they started.

I think the connection with metal is because distorted guitar works so well with the beats.

I tend to favor UK stuff: Cradle of Filth, My Dying Bride, Anathema, Porcupine Tree...

And some Norwegian avantgarde BM is also appreciated: the likes of Ulver and Peccatum.

I was surprised when i saw this subject on Isratrance.
Metal and trance reprisent the edges of the music, for me, they both extreme, enegretic.
in israel the metal scene is small compare the europe or american scene, althought the trance scene in israel, it's big and full of new surprises...

lots of trance artist came from the Metal scene, Xenomorph, Dark Soho, Dark Nebula, Megalopsy..
most of them kicking ass.

Metal bands recommended: Burzum, Zyklon-b, Slayer, Tiamat, Ensiferum, Symphony X, Swallow The Sun, Sodom, Rotting christ, Mayhem, Dark throne, Cryptopsy, Nile, Vile, Opeth, Natterfroat, My Dying Bride...

by the way Megadeth are coming to isreal,
cya there..

Music designed to lull the listener into a semiconscious state and then address the subconscious mind with gradually shifting layers of repeated motives.

Man i used to be a metal head...
Went to shows and shit... Then it got boring
Mostly brutal death metal and gore grind. Also funeral doom and stoner... Some symphonic black is awasome too.
I guess one could compare the energies you get from metal and psy... They are similiar, lots of power too... But i prefer dancing to psytrance in the woods then banging my head in shows...
I still listen occasionaly... Not much into the scene these days.
