has anyoen noticed a connection between metal and trance. im starting to notice afew things

1. a lot of the people i know (myself included) used to and still do listen to metal before discovering trance

2. the repetitvness. if you ask people on the street what hey hear in trance theyll say "boom boom boom" and about metal theyll saw "raaa raa raa". the music is at least at first quite repetive.

3. old tribe stuff. the metal scene loosly afiliates itself with old pagan traditions the trance scene with tribal/shamanic influences.

4. scandinavia. in both genres some of the best artists come from scandinavia. tehyre global influence is felt very strongly.

5. look at people at the back of the mosh pits and the side of the dance floor, theyre moving the same.
etc etc etc
a penny for your thoughts.           Work like you don't need the money.
Love like you've never been hurt.
Dance like nobody's watching.

Yea, i know waht are you are talking about. Trance and Heave Metal are the two polars of todays most favorite music genres: Rock and Dance. You have the mainstream in both of the genres and you have the underground which are Trance and Heavy Metal. Both of them are the most radical edges of their predecessors.

The connection is much simpler - 60s rock influenced both metal and trance.

Talolard: damn nice analogy!
another thing I've noticed is - people who used to listen to the heaviest metal in the metal genre, like black metal, also like the "heavy" trance music and tend to like heavy minimal etc...
I guess those people who like metal and trance like fast , unique and noisy things which their brain get really satisfied from it .

i can definitly connect trance and metal. they both use the same basic musical assumption, both have similar structuring, and both are full of deadheads

seriously now, psychedelic trance draws a lot, albeit not allways knowing it, from the 60's and 70's rock movements, hailing from britain, san francisco, new york and the likes. it also originated from ppl inspired by those times, and from 80's industrial rock and punk.           "We Do Not Allways See Things As They Are. This is subjective to certian kinds of metal.

Actually you could probably say this about any two forms of music. Its a bit vague.

Im pretty sure you could connect any two forms of music in some way.           no sig

I didn't come from Metal, more from the Grunge and Brit-Pop scene. But I can understand people who did. It is very similar and at the same time very different. Very nice comparison.
I would add Tim Schuldt, Juno Reactor, and Son Project to the list of metal thrashers turned trance thrashers Even Quirk sometimes.
I would love to hear some more guitar influenced music if anyone can recommned something good but not like Johan Bley, which is just one guitar chord played over and over for 10 minutes, good stuff please.           Both teams played hard
