Amazingly I listen to a lot of that stuff as well. Mainly death/doom and black metal. I like it lots when I'm in the mood for it. A couple of my fave bands are:
Death metal: Cannibal Corpse, Exhumed, Vomitory. Black metal: Immortal, Dimmu Borgir, Leviathan, Darkthrone. Doom metal: Shape of Despair, Mourning Beloveth, Esoteric. Great stuff!! People always drop in awe when I say I listen this next to (psy)trance...

I grow up with metal and I still like some of this music.
the classix groups like motorhead -black sabbath etc.
and yes is connected.
a lot of artist more than 30 age for example come to trance scene from metal.
A lot of quitars and tracks like acid for nothing or the high paradise confirmed that.

I think that the link between the two styles is obvious.
Metal is extreeme, agressive & energetic form of music,so does psychedelic trance.
It's easy to move from one extreeme form to another.
Also lotsa metalheads are openminded in the music sphere, so eventualy they may find themselves in the psychedelic trance scene.
I used to listen to Black,Death,Doom,Grind,Hardcore
Then moved to Electronic music
such D'n'b,Psytrance..etc
nowdays I listen to both - can't get the metal out of my blood

There's an interesting correlation that can be taken out of such a discussion.. In example I used to listen a lot to punk, NY-hardcore, Fusion ("metal" mixed up with hiphop) and in the electronic music some of my favourite projects are the ones like JouJouka and lots of Elektro stuff...
And most of the people (I wrote "most", hein ? not "all") who used to listen to some hard rock, or trash do prefer the melodic "side" of psytrance, may it be smooth (morning) or highly psychedelic (night time)
But I'm not generalizing, ok ? it's just an impression..

I appreciate good Rock music. Even if it's fast and intense. Like System Of A Down or early Korn. But i just can't understand all the hardcore/metal/doom/black metal stuff. I mean "Vomitary" ?
Am i on the wrong medication here?

i only read the first page so sorry if this is redundant...
something i have seen in the last year is a real darkness to some of the true underground psytrance music. it is mostly eastern european artists(like was said before), and Ghreg on Earth and it is very different from the comic book darkness I saw previously in psytrance. I would say it is closer to that of the true black metal of Russia, Norway, and the rest of the Scando stuff. I couldn't be happier with the music that is a product of this.
I think more than anything that the connection is within the underground and the fact that alot of these artists come from the underground metal scene...
one question though, does this make psychotic micro the psytrance equivelant of cradle of filth?
The drug. It's made from monkey cum.
They keep these monkeys locked in a room all day. Then they make them jack off. Then they take the cum and boil it. That's what the drug is made of. |

this is the extreme side of metal...
true underground black hate metal
i love this music, but i disagree completely with almost everything these guys stand for |
