its common knowledge how goa was once a paradise in the 60s..which was inhabited by the early flower folk whos intentions were non malicious....dey just wanted to escape the world live in solitude n do deyre thing...unfortunately for dem...deyre lifestyle bcamee highly imitated n people started arriving in droves to grab a piece of utopia....nd in d process lead to the onslaught of commercialism, drug cartels , filth ,pollution (most important) and other vices associated with human colonization...same goes for other locations like ibiza and thailand....now evry1s suggesting different alternatives to goa ......one goes n herd mentality takes over n the massses follow ...
a line from the matrix by Agent Smith to Morpheus catches my attention in dis regard :

Dats how human beings operate...few find a spot..tell others ...soo the place is fuked n polluted with the party culture.......also now i say dis is a general case for all types of tourist not just party tourists but its party tourists dat i single out bcoz they not only useall d facilties (read : pollute as much as ) a normal tourist wud use n dey encourage a thriving drug mafia...n dey also mess up places of natural beauty due to parties...which im sure arent cleaned up afterwards.....is there a solution or is der no other alternative?

unfortunately, the exact thing that draws people to a place is the same thing which leads to it eventual demise. Doesn't matter if it's party tourists, regular tourists or even eco tourists, they all leave a footprint.
Its natural to tell people about a great place, and one will never be kept secret for long.
Personally, I am concerned too, with the distruction of the english language. People using text speak when they talk and write...dis and dat and der, n and bcoz...is it so hard to write normally?

Well I agree with the first post... fucking hippies and psy trance destroyed Goa... then they all moved on to Thailadn and destroyed that place... now it look like Nepal is the next one to get fucked up by rich kids wanting to be hippies... this whole damn scene is one big hipocrisy...
at least the pop.rock.metal scene openly admit to fucking things upin general.. our scene pretends we're all enviroment lovers when it pure horse shit... we all come from rich wealthy western countries to fuck up poorer for our own pleasures! |

by the way this whole environmental protection/global warming etc has created a whole bunch of people who consume so much of the organic material that they have become a market segment...nonetheless they go on consumption sprees and because they buy environ mentally friendly products they feel free of guilt. but that too pollutes...like all the environmental campaigns, the paper, the paint, the visual pollution, the computers and so on...Environmentalists are hypocrites too.

I've wished they could (maybe i will) come up with a plane that does zero damage to the environment, so that when I go overseas to play I don't get myself guilt tripped. Specially since i'm moving back to Oz soon - you can't go anywhere from there without taking a plane.
I'm pretty sure that most decent party people clean up their mess after parties. If I see someone dropping litter at a party I'll go up to them and have a word. We do need to take care of the planet.
Saying that, we can't help what we are - the most intelligent (apart from dolphins, but they live in water and have no opposable thumb), most self aware species on this planet, so it makes sense that we are going to be dominant. You can't feel bad about what you are. All you can do is try to minimise your negative impact, but you don't want to go around feeling miserable all the time. As it says in the Desiderata :
You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
It's actually a brilliant verse, I read it when I'm down, it cheers me up - you can read it here

Well with this topic you can only start with yourself. ..
And if you compare psyparties with a rock concert, you will see that in psyparties people actually cleans up after they have been there.. Not so much in rock/pop concerts....

Individually, we are connected to something greater than ourselves. If we are to say that our environmental footprint on this planet outweighs the benefit we are capable of providing to other lifeforms, then one may slip into some sort of pessimistic mindset ably demonstrated by the quote in the first post. So, what should we do? Kill ourselves to save the whales? I think the question we should all address to ourselves is quite simple: what can we do to improve the situation in our lifetimes? The thing is, removing the individual from the equation solves nothing; the human race will carry on, perhaps lessened by the loss. If we are truly concerned about environmental impact, the solution is not self-abnegation and misdirection; it is conscious change, determined action, and a sustainable approach to modern living.
It is a good question--this bit about the environmental impact of psytrance events. I don't have the answer. I have attended festivals where everyone cleans up their trash, abides by the various rules and regulations set up to reduce environmental impact, etc. I've also attended festivals that have aimed to be carbon neutral, green-friendly, and so on. Ever spent any time at a downtempo stage powered by the sun? It is a good feeling. So, as with all our activities--whether they be industry or recreation--a wilful commitment to the improvement of our practises seems like the best way forward. Dialogue is key, which is why I'm glad this topic has been raised. Organizers need to be responsive to their clientele. If you are concerned about how the events are run, start a movement within the counterculture to promote environmentally sustainable events. I don't think it would be so difficult to get people thinking about partying green a little more than they might have thus far.

haha I love how you all try to justify what our scene has done to many countries...
oh India was chosen only coz it has pretty scenery...
no it was chosen because it was easy to get a way with popping illegal drugs.
it was chosen because we could throw raves in a place where it was easier to do it illegally, no hassle with permits, and (sadly) you could pay off the cops...
Thailand for the same reasons...
now I was part of all this, and whilst I had many great times, it burns my conscience alot now to think what damage our culture caused to these cultures through drugs, natural damage and abusing the system... and I really had thought that in the last few years it had moved away from this and parties were being thrown legally in our home lands...
but the gigs in Nepal prove me wrong and it is sad... I for one am doing my bit (even though I love Nepal) I"ll never ever go to a gig there... and I will not support any artists (and this says a lot as I"m one of the few who never download illegal music and only buy original cd's).
it shows a lack of true understanding and open minds to see all you so called "psy trancers" continue in the pursuit of self pleasure through the destruction of other cultures.
