Music is always changing.

That's what they call progression.

Psytrance is becoming more and more technoish IMO and more commercial (but this was the same case back in the 90's when it was a fashion).
But psy is becoming non-psy since a couple of years...

2Nostalgicents....

Last night i was going through some pictures/videos of Boom 2000/2002 and the "perfume" of psycadelic-cultute was so much strong there than the last editions...i really hope this culture doesnt lose what make it so different from the rest!!! I guess im missing the intensity and the magic so present in this culture

i can only tell you what happend around here in hamburg/mideurope. still there a trance events and open airs. many good artists (former progressive) released stuff on classical techno/minimaltechno/electro labels influencing the big club/techno - scene with fresh trance flavoured influences. artists are just the visible top of it, many people i know including myself, djs and more people, just good tired of psytrance (nothing offensive here) and electro/techno has so much great free room for musical expression so there is a lot of trance within, you just have look behind style-names/scenes. its your defenition what you call psychedelic, what your soul makes evolving.

of course it changes.......evolves like everything....problem is how and why:

more computer instruments +technology evolution etc = more people being able to make one track = less proportion of pure psy talent....no selection between artists (this is negatively enforced by the labels, organizers, and obviously, a wider spectrum of people listening to this music)

more people listening = less relationship to the origins of the movement/culture (i.e. the hippy trail/ escaping the norm (real travels and life experiences, not trancing for 9 to 10 hours at a party or a week holiday in goa) + first goa parties (nature, love, equality... not clubs, drugs and fashion like most parties now))= less spirit more marketing & materialism. !!!!

A more optimistic approach suggests that if someone avoids this commercial shit you can actually find that the evolution brought:
better improved music (deeper, more advanced in tech terms etc),
new trends (new directions to follow...new sounds new extremes)
and especially a spirit for this culture which is difficult to break.....people will always believe there is a more positive world behind all the madness of current times, a place where we can all move to and, smoke, chill, party, and have sex all day long.......more specifically when someone experienced the psychedelic trance state he can use it to change for the better.......and improve!

ps all these topics on losing the psy indentity, change, growth etc..... mean psy has reached menopause?......or puberty? or some other stage in life where we all are confused?......

There is alot of new fantastic psytrance but also alot of new really really really bad psytrance.

Psytrance is changing however the big festivals all still have the same old shit overpriced Handwavers who press spacebar, who have no idea how really to perform live or who don't even care about psychedelic vibe or trance. They go to get paid and make fun of the stupid hippies who spend all their money.

What I like about Psytrance is how quickly it evolves with the release of new software and computer hardware. I LOVE the seriously hi-tech twilight sound that I think is relative to the year we're in compared to stuff I've heard from around 2000.

Can't explain it to well, but I always feel that the dirty night-time Psytrance music and party vibe embodies the cyberpunk/cyberprep culture a lot better than Industrial music ever will.
