Cool, now we all can download AU Lab and conduct the first ever Isratrance-wide wav vs. mp3 test.

Let's not conflate two totally separate sides of the question here.

1) There are ethical issues:
- If you have access to (theoretically) better quality recording, it is your professional duty to choose that. Especially, if you are paid for this work.
- If the (theoretically) inferior version is the only one you have, it's your professional judgment whether playing it will do a favor or a disservice to the author and to the listeners.
(Which brings us to the next issue)

2) Then there is a technical issue, which is really a non-issue, IMHO.

Many people claim that a vinyl record sounds better than a digital file - certainly better than an mp3, right? Here is my simple logic: if you can live with the warmth (i.e. distortion) of vinyl, you can probably live with the (theoretical and hardly ever perceived by people outside production studios) flaws of a 320 kbps mp3.

Are there numerical differences between a wav and an mp3? Sure. Can anybody here them? Of course. People with highly trained ears on a high-fidelity setup. In a studio. Maybe in a club, which was custom-designed by audio engineers. Not in a basement bar in Brooklyn. Not in an abandoned warehouse in Detroit. And certainly not in Israeli desert or Karelian forest.

And if by chance you do hear it in those settings - maybe you just misunderstand the whole concept of a dance party.
