Infected Mushroom left psy trance music behind them since the days of B.P.Mpire and thats many years ago if you ask me so i dont understand what people are complaining about today March 2007.

B.P.Empire is very much psy! still, and always will be the best album in history of trance for me. It's like the 'Dark side of the moon' of the trance scene.

Funny how they say they don't want to be associated with the psy/goa scene anymore, but still appear at all the big psy festivals. Guess it comes down to going where the money is at.

Not being judgemental here. I fully agree with DETOX that they have left a beautiful heritage to this scene for which they will be remembered by many.

Can't say much about this album, as the music is not to my liking, though 'vicious delicious' and 'before' deserve mention as they are kicking tracks.

Vicious Delicious is the 6th main album by Infected Mushroom. I was initially expecting to hate this but it's not a bad album. Be open-minded guys! You can't look at this for psytrance alone or you'll be disapppointed. IM is trying different things while occasionally flexing their impressive music, mixing skills.

During many tracks these artists are skating on edge of what actually defines psytrance. There is more singing here than on previous albums. IM is conditioning fans and listeners to get used to the singing since each main album has more singing on it. For psytrancers fortunately, there are some gems to dig out of the rough. Don't be so quick to judge and hate.

Some songs are average, some good, great, some disappointing IMO.

IM's first three main albums are classics. I was listening to B.P.Empire the other day; I was blown away compared to this (and the last two trance albums) but whatever. They are clearly trying to appeal to EVERYONE as best they "think" they can and it is having a ripple meets snowball effect. The good news (for them) is that more people world-wide will become aware of psytrance. The bad news is many other groups will follow this singing/lyrics thing which renders those consistent awesome moods, being tranced, and having adventures of all types useless.

IM is still so musically talented. I know many psytrancers will be disappointed with this release, as I am. But if you want to here Classical Mushroom or B.P.Empire go listen to those albums. It will be interesting to see how Vicious Delicious compares to 2004's "IM the Supervisor", which fans and listeners will be most comparing. It's strange hearing these guys sound like Linkin Park on track 2 because they're usually the group everyone seems to be copying, not the other way around. IMO tracks 2 and 6 don't flow with the rest of the album but they do add an nice little variety. Track 2 would sound good on a Linkin Park, POD, or System of a Down album, but I don't hate it. It's fairly catchy for a rap/rock song although the style and concept is so unoriginal. We've heard stuff like this before. It's called RAP/ROCK... not psytrance, but I'm not going to hate because they pulled it off on one track.

01. Becoming Insane - B ... This will be fun for the dancefloor. Lyrics are shallow fun.

02. Artillery - B- ... Not bad for a Linkin Park, SOAD, or POD song. Those into rap/rock may like this.

03. Vicious Delicious - B ... Good drive and buildup. The first actual psytrance song without lyrics here.

04. Heavyweight - B ... Great first half, melodies. Good second half, decent third IMO. One of the best songs here.

05. Suliman - C+ ... I like the voice/melodic hymm part. It's catchy! A fairly good song, nothing great.

06. Forgive Me - C- ... This is not innovation in a good way. Thankfully it's short. Disappointing. Lackluster. Lame.

07. Special Place - C ... Get some catchier lyrics, chorus and voice please. Example: Muse Breaks (Rmx)

08. In Front Of Me ... C+ ... One of the better songs with lyrics here, and it isn't even psytrance or trance!

09. Eat It Raw ... B ... Finally another real lyrics-FREE psytrance song that's good. Nice climax.

10. Change The Formality ... B ... Great song and melodies before and after the singing interruption which distracts from the awesome mood (listener) and structure (sound) developing. I love the thrilling, energy buildup part during the second half or final third. I seriously wish they left out the singing (in the middle) of this one. They need to either go ALL-OUT with lyrics like in the first two tracks OR NOT because tracks like these could have been awesome without them.

11. Before ... B / B+ ... Good ending. Wow. I wish they'd stick to making solid songs as they once did.

In conclusion, Vicious Delicious is a hit-and-miss experimental electronica album fused with several lyrics and lyrics-free psytrance songs. Several songs here do not even qualify as psytrance! There are some good, great and not so good new psytrance songs. I'm generally not a fan of singing in psytrance but I don't mind the track for instance. Becoming Insane is just a silly, energetic, mainstream pumped-up dance song. Don't over analyze it. Tracks like Forgive Me on the other hand almost makes me cringe. And the vocals and singing on tracks like Special Place is anything but special. I wish these artists give their ego a break and get some good female voices and vocals as they did on the Muse Breaks (RMX) song from their previous main album. Almost half the songs don't have singing or lyrics here, but the other half feels like a big half as you progress into the middle. Vicious Delicious is the most lyrics, singing filled IM album to date. You decide if it's stronger or weaker than their last controversial 2004 album. I don't think most of us were expecting much after seeing the direction they were going in 2004. In that sense I was plesently surprised by the several kickass songs on this thing. If you're expecting Classical Mushroom or B.P. Empire part 2 - you will be disappointed. So do yourself a favor and don't do that. Listen with an open mind and hear the album several times before making a judgement and writing a review. I never said this album was great or even that good... but there is some very well done tracks and work within this package.

BEST TRACKS: 3, 4, 9, 10, 11.

B-

DETOX: Fuck yeah the Messenger! Underated? Not by me! To this day that is my favorite song Erez ever put his hands on.

In fact, it was a remix of the messenger I happened upon on a psy radio station that initially introduced and drew me into IM.

Yes, they are happy to appear as headliners at real Trance events, yet they try to distance from the scene. Promoters won't stop booking them, as they will always attract uneducated "electronica" fans to the event. $$$

The reason I hate this album and now like their classic tracks less is simple: I believe that artists who have superior skills are charged with creating art that DOES NOT PANDER to the lowest common denominator. It's like Superman using his heat vision to heat up the tea kettle. I do not have time for mindless, uninspired music, and I am now done with Infected.

I believe that an artist's bad output CAN taint their better work. I can no longer watch The Simpsons after choking down several years of terrible episodes. To me, being worthy of respect involves CONSISTENCY. If someone does ten bad paintings and two good ones, they will never gain my respect.

Hmm, what you said got me thinking, but you have to be objective here and be able to see beyond all that IMO. If someone does 2 great paintings and 8 shit ones you can still love the 2 good paintings and respect the artist for that. It's the same with music for me. As for The Simpsons, ofcourse there are some bad episodes in it. That's always the case with series. And in music it is no different. You can't expect an artist to churn out 8 albums and have 8 great albums without the occassional 'glitch'. Nobody's perfect and there are almost no artists out there that can keep up a really great level of consistency. Ofcourse there are exceptions to that rule as well, but hey, exceptions will always be there. What I'm saying is this. I like previous IM, and don't like their new stuff, but for me that doesn't mean I start disliking their older stuff. The same happened with Tim Schuldt for example. I consider some of the songs Tim made around 1996/1997/1998 to be some of the best hard psytrance singles ever. But his solo album First Error Code did absolutely nothing for me. Doesn't mean I don't still like his old songs.           "Subconscious unravels at the point of death, and all time it has known erupts into a moment. As death extinguishes us, so we become it."

Hazzy´s great review made it clear for everyone:be open minded and what you get is an unbelieveable, overwhelming great Psy/Pop/Rock album.
I now heard the cd about 20 times and still it grows on me.
Songs like Artillery or In front of me which I didn`t like in the beginning are now ok for me(But not more...).
After Supervisor my expectations weren`t high
and the first song I heard" Becoming Insane" still isn`t my favourite tune on this cd. But songs like Heavyweight,Before,Eat it Raw,Change the formality(except the vocals) and Special Place are simply great!
I really feel sorry for all the "I only listen to real Psy and I hate everything else" guys out there, because you miss the opportunity to fall in love with this masterpiece.
Nevertheless,Classical Mushroom still is their best work so far.

You have no idea how art or the artistic process works. No artist in the history of mankind has a record of perfection.

hey guyz! i was waiting for this album for a long time and now i must confess that it is rather dissapointing. i do not want to say as many of you did that this is crap or worst album ever or smth alike but it is definitely bit under my expectations. why? mostly because of artillery...
you know this song is a real disaster! it ruined all the impression of whole album. because of it i have to percept each track separately now instead of enjoying the disc as i usually try to do when im listening to full length releases. it is realy very very sad.
but there are still enough great tracks in best infected style with lot of creativity and top production. eat it raw, vicious dilicious, before and special place are very good. so what can i say? good luck with mtv broadcasting, friends! but actually and unfortunately im not interested in mtv...           Spiritual guides are to practice and serve in ways that cultivate awareness, empathy, and wisdom.
