Always makes me wonder.... how do they manage to travel around and party like they do.

and here we have steady day jobs and 'strategically placed tattoos', but can barely make it to Nepal!           "It's not the fall that kills you; it's the sudden stop at the end." - Douglas Adams

+ Their currency is stronger.

+ Sell clothes,art works,accessories,etc.

+ Do small time jobs in the country they r travelling.

+ And there r ppl who r already on a pension from the government for either declared unable to work coz of some injury or regarded as mentally insane.

"who the fuck will give them a job man" someone once asked me. Thought it was damm funny..

anyway, isn't there any other tourist place where the rupee is stronger, and we get to treat the natives like shit?

^ zimbabwe , back to the topic though , i don`t think all of them stay for 6 odd months or whatever , maybe a few , but not all .. but there is a neverending stream of hippie folk who stay for shorter periods , israelis do the long term thing more than most , but im not sure how many of them are returns or how many first timers .. & then of course there is the dirty mafia drug runners as well without whom there would be no boom and no shanti ... . good topic , iv often wondered too , the strong currency theory is an oversimplification

They work as unskilled workers back at home maybe drive taxis, drive trucks stuff like that, and their currencies are way stronger than the Rupee. They live real cheap in Goa. It's not like they go n have breakfast at Munches when they re there.

Also some of em have set up businesses that aid them survive.           ********************************************

Nice question. I've always wondered the same thing. I'm assuming that they must be doing small jobs in their home countries with stronger currencies, stashing some money in the bank and coming. Also, selling all kinds of stuff like musical instruments they've got from home. Some must be dealing.

Israeli's do the same thing. Work for a year after military or borrow from parents & travel after that.

Addicts must be selling off their posessions

social benefits were quite good in first world countries i don't kno Now....... some of these guys also head straight to re-hab and ashrams.... some of them have a lot of wealth and they usually get the required help........ others are just like on a joyride babas...travellers..... sadhus..... hocus pocus....
israeli's offcourse get money from their govt as they have to do compulsory army service as they fight all their neighbours and then they come here to party and blow all their money.......
but yeah .......... in the end u can keep on wondering how some come off it and keep the right balance and manage life and how some just loose it......... guidance and light to the wayward mind ....

Many people here seem to go with the stronger currency theory.... If that's the case, I'm heading off to zimbabwe!           "It's not the fall that kills you; it's the sudden stop at the end." - Douglas Adams
