This is a very important issue Gyuri, if there are no more flights ? What is the option to get there ? You are very right that not all can travel for months for this gathering.            3o~ kriz aka krize 3o~ ....Horrordelic Records.... http://www.horrordelic.com

The flights are not sold out. The reason you can only book flights for such a wide window around the eclipse is because LAN (the airline) has reserved all the flights within that time period to be offered to people who have pre-booked accommodation on the island, either at hotels, campgrounds, or the festival (this has been explained many times in many places).

I would suspect that LAN will wait for the majority of the accommodations that they are working with to get booked before making the flights available (no, they are not available as of this date). I would also suspect that they will be more expensive than the current flights.

If anyone is genuinely interested in trying to attend, you should weigh the expense of staying on the island longer vs. more expensive flights. Depending on your situation, either approach may work out to be more reasonable for you.

Regardless, although it makes for great forum drama, I encourage people to not panic or jump on unsubstantiated rumors and spread them as fact.

Enjoy!

jds,

It is not an unubstantiated rumor, it is a fact: flights with a normal time frame are not bookable at the moment.

Some of us are genuinely interested, but I'm sure everyone wants to know what they buy before they buy it. And also: for how much they buy it. At this moment it is absolutely not clear: if there are really flights available, nobody of us knows what price they will be sold at.

So if you book your festival ticket, perhaps a big surprise is waiting for you in a few months, prepared by LAN: 2-3000 Euros for a ticket from Santiago for example, instead of the normal 400. This is quite possible, I just checked the availability again, and I saw a flight available for 2056 (no mistake!) Euros. It leaves in the middle of June, and goes back at the end of July.

As we know, the human greed does not know limits. In times of special events like olympics or a football world cup, or even major festivals or concerts, the flights and hotel prices go up to the skies. They don't just get a bit more expensive like 50% or so, in some cases they sell for ten times higher than normal.

The airlines that have licence to land on the island can easily decide that it's time to harvest after the hard times in tourism: let's rip off everybody, since they already have a festival ticket (or accommodation booked), so they have to fly there. Anyway, there is no other chance to get to the island, just with them.

The eclipse tourism has been a growing industry in the past few years. As someone said before, tourist agencies sell trips for 8000 Dollars. There will be many rich people on that island during the eclipse, and they will be ready to pay almost any price for a flight.

That LAN wants to see accommodation booked for the island... this is a bit of a bullshit, I think. They are not a charity organization to save the environment of the island, they just want to make money by flying in people. And as it was also said, every single hotel room on the island got booked out years ago already.

To book a ticket for the festival is a gamble at the moment: you don't know what you're buying (no line up), and you don't know how much it will cost you. Also, the working people's (those who can afford this trip) problem is not solved with a many weeks' stay on the island, they need a shorter time frame, I'd say two weeks is about the maximum.

I wish this festival to come true and be successful. If you know the organizers, please tell them this good advice: book charter flights (and sell them in a package with the ticket), otherwise there is little chance that there will be enough people there.

Yes, there aren't flights that can be purchased with a normal time frame at the moment, but no, they are not sold out. That's what I was clarifying. The flights in that time period have not even been offered for sale yet. And ya, I totally agree, LAN will charge as much as possible for them. It's a matter of supply and demand. Like I said earlier, for many people the cheaper option would have been to purchase the early tickets in the month window around the event.

I'm just speculating, and I said nothing of LAN doing this for any good other than their own (ie: the longer they wait, the more the accomodations fill up, and the more people there are forced into paying whatever they eventually offer the flights at). There are other accomodations other than hotels on the island that have not completed their booking (camp sites, and the festival).

I don't know them personally, but I've been following their updates since the beginning on the tribe portion of their site. Unfortunately, you can't land a charter on the island. They already looked into it.

Santiago is not the only way to fly. I'm looking at flights through Tahiti. It's a little longer of a flight but a nice detour. There may be other Pacific Islands with flights to Easter Island as well. It would be a good opportunity for anyone looking for an excuse to go diving in the Pacific or stop see a few islands on the way there or back.

TOURISM TO RAPA NUI ISLANDS IS A MAJOR DANGER FOR THE ECOLOGICAL SYSTEM OF THOSE ISLANDS....

I THINK A TRANCE PARTY THERE WILL HAVE A REAL BAD IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONEMENT...

To find out nice spots and place is a good things for a trance party but this should be done with care for our planet and all the living beings....

Making people going by plane ( already the most polluating way of transport ) to places where tourism has a BIG impact on the ecological situation is really careless and egoistic....

My point of view....

That's True! Even if we don't want to see it that way.
Anyways, count me out. Tooooo much money for me right now. Some other time without music so as to feel the energy of the place as it is and without the "eclipse chasing" crowd which, for sure, will be from all over the world (i mean scientists and eclipse lovers, apart from music lovers..).. So, whoever goes i hope a beautiful time there

The last weekend was the Earthfest (ex Earthdance) in Chile organized for the same producers of the Honu Eclipse, Dreamvibe. The feed back full with complains from the people who attended to the event forced the organizers to close their website in Facebook, with more than 10 thousands fans. The critics were very severe, so the only source about what happened there, now is in Facebook in another site: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/pages/gato-por-liebre/195088387122?ref=ts
And a denuonce coming from a chilean DJ : http://www.zonatrance.cl/index.php?option=com_fireboard&Itemid=27&func=view&id=3779&catid=20&limit=10&limitstart=0

It seems http://www.honueclipse.org and http://www.facebook.com/honufestival are both down. Seems the worst may have happened.

I guess all the haters can rejoice now.

I myself had a wonderful year thinking of the possibilities for this event (exactly one year since I heard about it actually). The potential was there for powerful cosmic alignment but it seems it may have been too much for reality to endure. In another dimension this event is proceeding smoothly but not in ours I suspect. Hopefully many lessons were learned and the future will be better for it.
