I agree with the general assessment that psytrance culture has been facing a broad downturn in overall creativity since about 2004. Great music is still coming out but I've heard from so many artists how difficult it is to get released when their style doesn't fit into one of the established categories. I think a lot of this can be blamed on the raw economics of the psytrance industry. Commercial CD manufacturers usually deal in a minimum of 1,000 units (sometimes 500). Put these numbers in perspective: CD sales figures reported on Isratrance were not much better than 200, 300, or sometimes 1,000--with the notable exception of a few of the bigger, more established labels and the odd break-out hit cracking into the thousands. But that's quite rare.

What all the music scenes are living as a whole because of the technology revolution is a complete transformation of the model, and the total anhiliation of the music business.

This chaos we are experiencing is natural, because all the new technologies came too fast, with no time to adapt, but in the end if artists and listeners as a community know how to establish a fair and flexible model to produce, distribute and consume music this revolution will be for good.

But of course, we are humans, and there's always a chance we'll screw it up !!

hey ocelot bro, this thread remind me of a song, check it:

"Kick back watch it crumble
See the drowning, watch the fall
I feel just terrible about it
That's sarcasm, let it burn

I'm gonna make a toast when it falls apart
I'm gonna raise my glass above my heart
Then someone shouts "That's what they get!"

For all the years of hit and run
For all the piss broke bands on VH1
Where did all, their money go?
Don't we all know

Parasitic music industry
As it destroys itself
We'll show them how it's supposed to be

Music written from devotion
Not ambition, not for fame
Zero people are exploited
There are no tricks, up our sleeve

Gonna fight against the mass appeal
We're gonna kill the 7 record deal
Make records that have more than one good song
The dinosaurs will slowly die
And I do believe no one will cry
I'm just fucking glad I'm gonna be
There to watch the fall

Prehistoric music industry
Three feet in la brea tar
Extinction never felt so good

If you think anyone would feel badly
You are sadly, mistaken
The time has come for evolution
Fuck collusion, kill the five

Whatever happened to the handshake?
Whatever happened to deals no-one would break?
What happened to integrity?
It's still there it always was
For playing music just because
A million reasons why

(All) dinosaurs will die"

if you listen to much older psy and goa music you find much more variety both inside of compilations and inside individual tracks...

today its all about homegeneity.
its all about playing more and more of the same kind of trance (whatever it is) that you already play.

if you buy a compilation its about 8-10 tracks of more or less the same exact music. same kind of track structure and same kinds of sounds...

people are choosing their comps based on HOMOGENEITY

i see it as reinforcing the identity politics aspect and reducing the psychedelic and open minded aspects.

i am posting this to bitch and hopefully get some people thinking or talking about this subject.

its gotten really bad people- you go to a party and only hear one kind of psytrance the whole night- no one imagines the other sounds could POSSIBLY have anything to offer them... mixes of different sounds scare labels and organizers. many of those guys just want consistency so they can project how much MONEY they are going to make.

someone can become popular only within the existing genres of psytrance- even an older artist coming back into trance needs to fit one of the formulas! thats strange to me...

this is the opposite of psychedelic.
its the opposite of open minded.
its the opposite of evolution.

we are KILLING the evolution of psytrance in favor of plastic static formulas that dont actually reflect the people we are.

real people have more complex emotions and feelings than just "dark, fullon, progressive, electro, goa" etc...

even to use the term goa to refer the the mind boggling body of music that ranges from UX to KoxBox to Astral Projection- thats a serious dis-service..

if someone were to listen to one of the biggest albums of psychedelic trance- XDream Radio- one might say its a tad dark at points, a bit techno-ish and proggy at points, a bit fullon at points...

if you listen to one of the early TIP singles you find a wide variety of tracks. GMS were CRAZY in those days! tracks that are way to subtle for the "STOOPID" approach of todays labels and organizers- like The Deviant- like Orichalcum.... strange psychedelic sounds with subtle beauty... right next to straightforward dancefloor bangers...

but somewhere around 2000-2004 it all went to shit and split in a social sense and the reactions went too far away from each other and now they dont even talk...

by the way=- since when did we ditch the spiritual "raising consciousness" story ?

coome on,
psychedelic trance nowdays it's a
enormous fun park u're a part of it,
don't u like it?

ook, maaaybe i'm not the apropriate person to
discuss about the "old" days,
since the mid 90's-the time of the goa blast and all that-
i was "preoccupied" with, dancing at goth and metal clubs & buying "Virgin Prunes" records,
but that's my point,now, i can't live without it!

man,it(psytrance) was like and edndless blink, bling, pararara,
and now,
its an experiment!

what narrowed borders we're talking about,
when every,kind of music,
found its place through psytrance?
and no,i resent for this is recycling.

metal,industrial,acid,electro,progressive,
minimal,tech,experimental,folk,rock,u name it,
what's the problem with putting the "goodies"
to the self to avoid the chaos?

12-13 years psytrance wasn't so "rich"
and didnt need so many "selves" right?

and belieeeve me,spirituality it's at its best and its "nutrition" contains all the "minerals" and "vitamins"
this music actually managed to gather,
not only the wandering souls but everybody by becoming a plus!
" i'm listening this plus psytrance" "that plus psytrance".
the voice has spread,
aint this a blessing?

as far as the homogeneity(lol! i was looking for this word in the dictionary, thinking, where on earth did he find this word, and it's greek!)issue,
me like it,
cause i'm a sucker for darkpsy covers

hey ocelot, I agree with you - more intelligence put into partying the better - it's definitely about being good to your neighbor too...

I just recently had a chance to listen to many old TIP compilations and the quality of them blew me away. I could hardly believe wtf is going on now.. like.. how things progressed to where they are now, I have no idea.

after all this reading......

why not promote more parties similar to the bardo test in Switzerland for the world psychedelic forum...??
http://forum.isratrance.com/the-psychedelic-experience-can-you-pass-the-bardo-test
really great concept to promote the trance experience...in psychedelic form....

(ocelot played there also)...

basic point...get rid of all commercial bullshit first...activate labels and party org on more trance culture awareness and less on the money focus...
keep it underground....ex: forgotten, psycrowdelica, armaggedon, shanti jatra, xialba festival (poland), ozora, shiva moon, etc.....

...AVOID THE REST.......??!!

BOOM!

ps...also useful could be to find another place to "destroy" like goa.... and lets all migrate there!?

Ultimately, when there is a big party to be organised, a lot of money needs to be put in. It is easy to judge the organisers as someone who is attending the party, but when it is your (or borrowed by you) money on stake, priorities change. Same applies to a label. Where the wallet gets involved, the heart often dissapears and then we are stuck with generic, play it safe music being played at parties and released by labels.

To me the wonderful aspect of the scene is when things are done from the heart, whether a producer making music that they love, or a label owner releasing such music, or dj playing such music at parties. Then sub-genres become less important and good music is veiwed as just that - good music. People who do things from the heart are the ones that still make parties worthwhile to attend for me and music worthwhile to buy.

hello guys...it is so funny and very serious , too.

somebody said : Listening to old goa trance, i can't imagine how we've come here..."

you know what i think? maybe we can't do anything alone, that's why we don't do special things lately and we just moan about the scene and the music and its people and the organisers.

where is the magic?

it's inside us. it's everywhere.

but we need faith. if we lack faith we are just puppets "sleeping" at the background of the master plan-0eternal evolution-0mother nature whatever you want to call it. (at least that's how i feel most of the times)

i believe: goa trance was great back then because , it was destined to be that way.

i want to believe that a new psychedelic revival which will include the whole world (maybe it already does) is in the corner...

sometimes i believe to the stories about the trancendence of the world towards 20`12 and see around me all people as one, being more kind day by day, i see the children how humble they are etc. and...believe...then i fall down again, sleeping, not believing, trying to convince myself that it was all crap, childish and have to move on with my lufe as a serious adult....but i can't~! you see the impact of psychedelic was so great...it changed me...it made me a new person...i can't forget....so to be fully alive again..i need a psychedelic revival. COME ON~!

AND DON"T FORGET AMBIENT GUYS~! THE SPIRIT IS HIDDEN THERE SOMEWHERE

and don"t forget orbital_)in sides

maybe time to return to the source (prohetic phrase_)

good night
