Both "Hippies" and "Psytrancers" are the worthy descendants of the Cultural movement that was born in the end of the XVIII century, pulled up by philosophers, artists (painters, musicians) and writers like Beethoven, Stendhal, William Blake, Turner, Novalis, and so on..

It is known as Romanticism and its "keywords" were "feeling", "imagination", "experience" and "nostalgia"..

So for the numerous times I've read here that the "Psytrance" way of Life is like a Revolution or whatever, I'm always smiling.. It started more than 200 years ago, hehe.. But for some people here I thinking reading a bit about what "Romanticism" is would hopefully help them to stray from such unavailing comparisons, based very often on clichés, between hippies, punks, psytrancers, etc..           .

KakoOlalaJwal that's true, but if you look at the word hippie, and what I think to be his root back from psyrock time that's a thing called Y.I.P. that stands for Youth Internacional Party, and think that that was based on the *openmindness of the young

for that standart I know 70 year old persons that are hippies and dont know it
for that standart I think whenever anyone calls somebody an hippie in a offensive tone, I just think to myself what a pitty it is when you see that a persons brain stagnated or died even sometimes at such a young phisical age

beeing a hippie it could be very complex, you would have to ask the person who spoke it for the 1st time what they really meant

it all depends on how you define hippies

one thing is the fashion sense hippies developed in the sixties, other thing is the ideas they inspired and developed experimenting with all kinds of drugs, structures, philosophies, etc.

for me a hippie is a person that fights todays establishment with a positive vibe using all kinds of resources to stay "high", from drugs, to technology, to meditation and all sorts of ancient ways of keeping your mind steady.

so a trancer and a hippie would be the same, but there all kinds of levels and ways of behaving. the hippies in the 60s were more commited, but they took too many drugs and when they were 30 and vietnam was over they didnt know what to do. the trances are less comitted, they still work and play a role in todays society, but at the same time they have more resources to fight, technology, education, money, etc.

so hippie is just a way to name this people, but they have always been there and always will. the way i see it, psychedelic trance is completely hippie, its the upgrade of that vibe integrated with our current context. i think this is great! once more people all over the world want to be free!

dressing as a hippie, its just one of the many ways to escape this society, as drugs, as music, etc, etc. the good thing about psychedelic trance is that it feeds from all the different parts it has, freaks, hindus, buddhists, punks and hippies. psychedelic is a crazy mix of all kinds of elements that are different in their content, but the structure is pointed to the same direcion, living a nice life, telling the system to f*ck off .

I can see William Wordsworth at an open air party, can't you?

Maybe psytrancers are really New Romantics then?

I don't like to be compared to hippies... I love psytrance but I totally disagree with the way that hippies are "against the system"...

Not to work and not to shave and stuff is not cool, because you can be against the system through ideas and actions, and not just by saying you are...

IMO, if you call yourself a hippie and you're against the system, you won't agree by paying for party tickets, drugs, internet... that's the system nowadays...

Some psy-trancers share hippies' philosophies, some don't. It's as simple as that really.

Personally I'd sooner be compared to a hippy than a capitalist.

i dont thik that it is a fair judgment to make! only because now in the trance scene it is not all about hippies, i mean if youjust take the styles adn genres of music, no self respecting nature loving hippie would ever groove and love the sounds of horror place , or jellyheadz , or dyalien etc etc these are sounds and feelings that have coem frmo more acid tech, metal , thrash backgrounds with just 4 x 4 structure to put them into the psy category. the people making this music and dancing to it are very far from hippies in my opinion

maybe its casue trancers are simply a agroup of new age travelling nomads.... and looked upon in the same fashion by society as theylook upon the hippiesm maybe we have a few hippies in ourmidst, but i aint one of em!
