I guess psytrancer is more wide ranging term than hippy. I like psy, but I'm not a hippy, still, I can often relate with hippie ideology and in the end of the day I wish there would be more hippies around.
I know many old hippies and they have much more liberal mindset than "common" people, who are often blinded by the rat race.
I guess there are all kinds of people in psy trance scene and they also have somewhat liberal attitudes even though their background could be basicly anything. |

Now is not like the 60's.
So hippies and psytrancers is not the same but todays hippes can be the psytrancers..

If I'm a psytrancer( and I don't know if I am ) is just because of the music basically, nowadays a lots of people in goa party aren't as openminded as were hippies, a lots other do it for drugs consuming a lots other because they finally saw that an openair psytrance party is 10 times nicer then to stay in a club, I mean the psytrance scene has evolved a lot has changed and now in a party you don't find just a bunch of hippies on a beach of goa smoking spliff, or under lsd, dancing, smiling enjoying the music the atmosphere, the people, you have some freakz, some club people, some people coming for the first time, some people who come for something else then music, some other because they like to dance on open air, etc etc....
I think we are in year 2005 and people are too differentiated to say psytrancers are all hippie or something similar |

it all depends on how you define hippies 
one thing is the fashion sense hippies developed in the sixties, other thing is the ideas they inspired and developed experimenting with all kinds of drugs, structures, philosophies, etc.
for me a hippie is a person that fights todays establishment with a positive vibe using all kinds of resources to stay "high", from drugs, to technology, to meditation and all sorts of ancient ways of keeping your mind steady.
so a trancer and a hippie would be the same, but there all kinds of levels and ways of behaving. the hippies in the 60s were more commited, but they took too many drugs and when they were 30 and vietnam was over they didnt know what to do. the trances are less comitted, they still work and play a role in todays society, but at the same time they have more resources to fight, technology, education, money, etc.
so hippie is just a way to name this people, but they have always been there and always will. the way i see it, psychedelic trance is completely hippie, its the upgrade of that vibe integrated with our current context. i think this is great! once more people all over the world want to be free!
dressing as a hippie, its just one of the many ways to escape this society, as drugs, as music, etc, etc. the good thing about psychedelic trance is that it feeds from all the different parts it has, freaks, hindus, buddhists, punks and hippies. psychedelic is a crazy mix of all kinds of elements that are different in their content, but the structure is pointed to the same direcion, living a nice life, telling the system to f*ck off .
