keep the money and buy later on good open headphone like
AKG k712 pro
or the best headphone's but cost a lot
AKG K812
or
Senhayzer HD 800
all 3 options sound are amazing and you will be really really happy with them.
they are sound almost same like listing on good monitors

check akg 701 /702 or k550 for more low end or coupled with a pair of ath m50 ,these translate well too speakers in my experience, better than well regarded balanced headphone like the akg ,dt 880 ect for me but these are not very detailed for critical listening
it s like speaker you need to try and make your own choice .. but i think you can t go wrong with the ath M50 for the price and buy a other pair later to complement them if needed |

M50's? Seriously? I've had mine for ages now & I find them bearable for listening but they cause me a huge amount of ear fatigue. I've used them for production a few times & does not translate well at all to other sound devices (stereo/car/PA).
Got me some Sennheiser Momentum 'phones the other day & they are wonderful for listening and dj'ing. For production I got some Beyerdynamics which work ok. Nothing beats quality monitor speakers though.

M50 are tools to learn..like ns10 but could be said for any cans..these are not flat at all but once used to the sound ,these just translate well to speaker with no suprise, check gearslutz many love them and some over hd 600 and all popular cans.
to start with on many cans just getting the kick bass right is really tricky almost impossible wihtout pain, trials and errors , for this the ath feel like almost mixing on the monitors to me but maybe it s cause i m used to the sound.
and after it s taste what work for someone may not work for a other but if these have becomr popular by dancefloor music producers it s not for nothing !
ath m50 + a flater more detailed cans is perfect combo |

Use M50s if you like the sound, sure, I love them for walking about town with listening to FLACs on my portable player. And you can adjust to anything, like the NS10's you mention. Just be aware they are ultra smiley curve and that there are many more truthful sounding cans out there for about twice the price. People are used to hearing the smiley curve everywhere, which is why they love M50s, but an honest mix reference they aint!

True what Babaluma say
pulse if people don't have a good studio or they
Can't make music on high Vol because NV/PR
or nvm which reason
batter for them buying good open back headphone and not close one
good open headphone will give them almost the same resolute like listing in good studio with good pair monitors...

You said it yourself, at 'twice' the price! What better closed headphones are there under $200? Not everyone can afford to shell out $400 for a pair of headphones!

I dunno, maybe have some patience and save up a bit longer? You'll save money in the long run as you won't need to keep upgrading. Go for a pair of HD600s and be done with cans forever.
But I agree, probably nothing better out there for the price of the M50s, just be aware of their flaws. I really wouldn't want to be basing mix decisions on them.
The HD600s, on the other hand, translate extremely well to my ATC monitors, which cost about twenty times as much.

I personally was planning on getting HD380's as i need closed headphones that can double up for recording when the need arises. Indeed i've heard a lot of praise about the HD600/650/800 but they're all open. I know the drawbacks of closed headphones but are there any that can compete with the HD series in terms of flatness & translation?
