hello,
i was wondering... cause i've heard all kinds of bad stories about goa gil and america... what is really going on?
my friend wants to book him to come to canada, but apparently he played some horrible music in the states before, because he hates america?
these are just things i have heard, and i'd like to hear what other people have got to say about this...
love & light,
nadzinka

lol@nadia

raising our consciousness by lowering his own...through extended marathon 24-36+hour sets filled with horrible hatred for the unsuspecting citizens...

sorry just not possible.

This man rips open portals of time and space and takes us all along for the ride. Simply impossible if he was doing it out of anything close to what you write about.

Last year, I think he was booked at least 4 or 5 times across the country, maybe more. Considering he can play anywhere of his choosing, methinks he enjoys playin here...

Wow! I thought I've heard everything, but this really takes the cake.

It sounds like the people who told you this are smoking plastic.

WOW... This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of.. Okay well not Ever... But I think whoever you have been speaking to must be clueless. I don't think it's possible to go and play a 24 hour or even longer dj set to music that you don't like. I think it would be damn near impossible. He is able to do this by putting himself in a trance state. There for I'm pretty sure he is enjoying what he plays and gets something out of it. You should really give him more credit than what you were asking....           Jessica

Jess, mind you, that without surrender, the music of Gils choice can be a bit...difficult for some...especially if it was someones first time experiencing Gil, and especially if perception of such was "filtered" through a particularly resistant ego. I can see the likelihood of this kind of self-important comment coming from someone who just didnt get it....

His taste is definitely .... different.

"Horrible" and "bad" are relative terms that only have meaning when you have something to compare to - which is an impossibility in Gil's case.

Everyone should go so him at least once - with an open mind, and open ear and an open third eye.

@lucid dreamer -- gil is a cheerful old chap and i don't think he means to have antagonized anyone intentionally... in the sense that you are implying, at least? If your canadian crowd likes to lap up fast and dark psy for 20 hours or more, they'll like gil!

it is funny to imagine the person who lost it while gil was playing and somehow came to the conclusion the he hates america and was torturing the attendees.... hehe

the only people whom i have heard to have a "horrible" experience with his sets are people who haven't listened to much -- or any psy.

other, more mild complaints from psytrancers of varied palates generally revolve around an argument against monoculture / musical inbreeding, or just a desire not to trip on a single subgenre of psytrance for an entire journey.

as far as gil being the father of psytrance, how about we just say *A* father of psytrance...

ya so i can see why someone may say this gil events are not for the weary. If you are weary you need to go into it with a completely open mind. if you dont like fast music or intense music forget about that for a night and just listen and move to whatever he is playing. You will see the most amazing thing happend at the set i saw in portland try to follow me.

about 4-5 hours of not dark but intense heavy music increasing in speed and chaos till it eventually reached an apex where for about an hour it was almost ambient (intense ambient) . You went from frying like an ice cube in a fast food fryer (dont try this at home) to peacfully swaying. something snapped something like a plane breaking the sound barrier. at upwards of 200+bpm somwhere it becomes half the bpms that it was so if the track is 220 bpm you are experiencing it as if it were 110 bpm. now this would not be possible if it werent properly built up. if you just toss on a 220 bpm track outta nowhere itll sound like noise. but to be there to break the bpm speed barrier was a truly beautiful thing. that moment mixed with a few others from that event left some very positive things branded in my psyche. please dont judge just go and take it for what it is, which is something different to every individual. no matter if you leave feeling alive or leave feeling sick if you analyze the feelings you had you will be able to see some very important clues to better knowing your hidden self.

WOW its amazing to see how hes literally worshiped by some people. He is mortal you know. Me personally, I liked him when I first got into this music. Kind of how young kids who like hip hop get into commercial stuff before they land in the underground stuff. He was a poster child then and still is today just another guy who plays other peoples music. I often wonder what would happen if he started playing skazi or Infected. If the people would ban him like they did the later. Of, course that is just my opinion.

Goa Gil while listening sober is not so good.
Goa Gill while listening high.. you get the picture, try it. Maybe he'll make a believer out of you too. Ya never know.           http://soundcloud.com/djkiva
