I think it is not bad music, but GAWD, it gets played too damn much at parties.

I go to a party nowadays....the first couple hours are a bit more groovy and diverse. But then starting around midnight or 2am, it is the same sounds for the rest of the night. Same groove, same feel, same bassline, same tricks....bleh.

I don't mind the full-on sound. It is fun dancefloor music. But for 5+ hours straight, it gets really damn old. Diversity is the key, and I rarely hear it anymore. Just the same 150 bpm sounds for hours on end.

I blame the DJs, not the artists.

One of the most enjoyable DJ sets I heard recently - some guy named Maik Hotz. He played a good 3 hours of great psytrance, never getting stuck in a single style. Everything flowed well. Towards the end, he threw on a few full-on tracks to peak it. Perfect timing. The dancefloor absolutely ate it up.

3 hours of it and they would have been numb by the end. But save it until the *exact* right spot and the explosion was immense. That was much more memorable than the "5-hour peak" sets I hear at every party.

Others should take his cue.

Well as i see it, full-on has come to the edge of non development... Seriously its the same stuff IMO. It has some spikes and cracks here and there were someone realy puts his penis out and shock people... But its been a while i agree...

There is so much music out there and so little money to get it all. But as i recommend all my friends to do is to go to a store and ask for 1 cd of every trance oriented genre... Most of the store owners are quite aware of what kind of cd to sell when u want to show a little piece of a specific genre... Anywayz, Lets just drop this and move to promotional section and but the stuff u would never buy if you wouldnt have read this thread

my cents..

PEACE

i would have to agree with gem_37 and krelm... all we hear about is full on full on...specially the parties in south africa. all parties play down here tend to concentrate on is that one particular trend and frankly im getting bored of going to different parties that play the same thing, same bass, same all. there is so much good trance music out there... why is everyone only fixated on just the one category? sure full on does get u on ur feet and make u bounce off the walls, but surprise surprise u get tired, physically and metaphorically...

the artists gem_37 was talking about all push out brilliant tracks, as do full on artists, but still are not seen in the same positive light as full on is. what a pity

but traveller id have to disagree, minimal is not boring: it has depth, and all full on has is bass

Ok !!!! i ahve tried to answer u all and be sensible at the same time .. lol hope no one minds....

Hey Alek:

Firstly i dont have a problem with other people listning to fullon ... even i, at times listen to fullon, like i said there are good artists and it makes for good party music . But what i cant handle is going to a party and hearing nothing but fullon. from start to finish.

Last month i went to a a lunartech party here in SA but for the main reason of seeing CPU live... My god what a dissapointment. I got to the party half an hour before he started and left right after... from the moment i got there till the moment i left the tracks changed ... but it all sounded the same exept for one track that had heavy distorted guitars... and even then is was from some rock track in the 70's ...

my post was not to attack fullon but wanted people to air their opinion and personally i would rather listen to a group with substance, depth and diversity then a group who sounds like the the track i heard just before that track and the last.

I hope that make sense..

nectarios:

I dont think it has to do with where u come from! Im south african ... and we are pushing out fullon tracks by the dozen... Shift, damage, broken toy, twisted system and many many more .. so i dont think it is appropriate to genaralise like that! im also relatively young ... regarding the music... but i know where my heart lies....

I was into metal for many many years and i still am .... hence my tendancy to the darker trance.. well thats how i see it ... im not telling people to not listen to fullon im just tring to find out for myself .. why its so popular. Is it because perhaps comercial is starting to rear its ugly head ??????

Yeah u are right ... there is bad progressive ... and there is good ... with every style there is yin-yang ... but thats life aswell.

FluoSamsara:

No, I did not answer my own question.... its called sarcasm but whay i would like u to tell me is what is it in the music that apeals to you and why we dont hear other styles on the dance floor...

Thats what i am trying to find out ... no dissing of artists ... i tend to opt for music that makes u think ... and just because its a tad slower then fullon doesnt make unworthy of being played at parties ... u can still stomp to it ..

I have adopted the idea that if its good ill listen to it regardless..

-Abatwa-:

In a round about way ur right complaining, as no good will come from it right ?

traveller:

Dude ur one of those people that doesnt like anything ... i think u nead ur hear read if u wanna bash minimal ... catcha wake up buddy.

NeutroN:

I guess u have seen a few like this before but i had'nt (to the moderator surenderer i hope thats right... no i did not use the search, luke) .

Goblim: wrote: (Full on doesn't really have much melodies, compared to old Goa.........)

Yes... does seem to feel that way ... but there is still originality out there.... sometimes aswell as melody... ta

full_on:

Dude .... its all recycled .. melody or not .... it is a continual process of recycling sounds effect melodies.... but its how u do it that counts ... hence original .When last did u have a listen to the rock scene ???? everyone thinks they are the monkey's again .. man 70's lol.....

Everyone has there opinion, everyone has points that they try to bring accross....

Lauge

Thanks for the backup on this I am a minimal listner aswell ... and many more genres...
i think the fullon bunnies (people that only listen to fullon ) would say things like bash minimal ... and its boring ... when in fact the tracks have structure depth and definition.... it works ... and kicks seriouse ass... man if only they new what they were missing out on. But hey who are we to preach. Its the little things that counts and just because it doesnt bombard you with thousands of layers of squeaks beeps and well u all know, doesnt mean it isnt good.

i also thought it was an important question ... hence my post.

lordsuril

i have music that isnt fullon that will have u boincing so hard u wouldtn know what hit u !!!! and as far as i know PPS have not made any fullon music..... i now that they have split for a while to persue solo carears there is word of the solo stuff being fullon but to date i have not heard a PPS proj ttrack that sounds like fullon.

Krelm:

Dude u have given the best answer yet ... but why cant everyone see it like that ...
I would love to attend parties where DJ's do that ... start at a point and and work it up .. yes let the set include fullon but dont let it just be fullon. diversity is the key for me.

psilocybe:

Thank you for ur imput and backing me aswell ... u rock and u know that ....

i guess i should explain myself a little better..

it's pretty much impossible to describe what psychedelic trance (also known as psytrance) is..

i guess you could say that

a) it's electronic music
b) it's psychedelic

now i would describe most full on as

a)electronic

but unfortunetly the b option doesn't apply..

same goes for progressive and minimal..

there you had it..           "The dinosaurs became extinct because they didn't have a space program."

Psychedelic trance is a bad name in the first place since psychedlic is a subjective word. What's psychedelic to someone might be shit for another and the other way around.

Personally I've never even heard psychedelic (=mind expanding) music. No music has ever expanded my mind, not music alone anyway...           Ut ameris, amabilis esto.
