long time ago i used to work with a mac (just work)

But one day i went to buy a cd-rw for mac and got totally robbed, by the guys at MACLoja.

The ram and external equipment is very expensive, the technical help is very expensive, and the software is hard to find.

That's my experience.

Never again did i use my mac.

I understand the "engineer's" point of view, however, obviously if you're going to buy a new machine you want it to preform the best as it can.

Now i use a PC, and i'm damn happy with it.

Look allot of peolpe simply buy Mac and say its greate because dont understand nothing of Harwere. If you understend of Hardwere you know you can get a Pc Beter or powrfull then a Mac.
If you have a G4, that Mac its not out, but you will gonna have problems if you what to put you Mac more powerfull.
If you have a Pc with 2 yers you know that its only need to buy some new parts.

hey man , i usually buy hardware for my mac , (rams)the saame price as the pc , since they are the saame RAM...
about hardware ,u may need more expensive cdrw , because first they work as SATA and not ATA or ultra ATA ,

about rest almost the same prices !!!

only the machine inself is more expensive , but ok , each market make is own prices

and if your g4 is out , start thinking to buy a g5

thats like everybody do , but of course its needed a bit of sacrifice for some and foor outher is more easy to buy , but i say as well , more one think , if ppl want to buy a mac , dont buy is particular mac shop , try getting nice reselers , like i found one , near "feijó"(location in portugal) and me and nexus we buy everything there , thing are much more cheaper , than is regular shops, y payed less 900 euros for my g5 and less 500 with the power book g4

if you're a *REAL* engineer you would be interested in getting more power for your bucks.

don't misunderstand me dude! i don't mean it's not worth to spend money in equipment, no way !! What I mean is, equipment is NOT the only thing.

and mac vs pc mostly means Cubase SX versus Logic and don't say they're both the same thing because they aren't.

No they are not but ... just because of using Logic you think your songs will be better than mine? No way.

since your gonna spend money in a computer, you should go for more power, since you are an engineer you dont need a fancy UI, do you?

It is true. I think it's all about finding an environment you're confortable with!

btw, your friends setup is a bombastic compared to what some people here did start with: Ataris, Amigas, hardware sequencers, *real* instruments, etc... so who's the newbye now?

exactly!!! that is what I mean. I had Cubasis over Atari 512 (one 720Kb, 3.5 diskette). I didn't make much use out of it because I was very young and only interested in having fun doing a little noise, but there was certainly people that used it in a professional way. Compare that setup with one computer nowadays: Virtual Instruments, Unlimited channel mixers, Unlimited effects, No latency, ADAT outputs .... hehehe

I use cubase sx2 and FL studio...

Cubase sx2 really makes a difference, i think it's all about the evyronment... (like you said) i find it easier to produce tracks in sx2 than FL after i got used it

it isn't really a war... there's a place of macs and pcs:

macs are for girls, kids and old-people-who-wanna-be-into-computers-and-buy-the-best-looking-one-at-the-store

pcs are for everyone else

lol
