Your stock one is enough, everything will fall in place when you find a reason to use something specific, make your own tests, you need to find things you can benefit with, it’s your preference and workflow, your vision behind it, keep in mind that most surgical EQ’s are using identical algorithm, what set’s them apart is how you find them usable, same goes for hardware emulations, you need to find what is working for you, I love Pultec on kick, next guy doesn’t, I have tons of effects on my bass, next guy is preferring what he got from source, again even if you know what I’m using, it’s not about the tool, but decision behind it and what is done/how much is done with it in context with source and mix, so do lot off tests and comparisons, see with what you can benefit the most, opinions/preferences are like assholes, everyone have one. |

I was using still well plugins 1973 eq and vibes eq,they are great for make a surgical cut+ this sheet of frequencies.
Bass
Try boosting around 60Hz to add more body. Any apparent muddiness can be rolled off around 300Hz.If more presence is needed, boost around 6kHz.
50-100Hz ~ Adds bottom end
100-250Hz ~ Adds roundness
250-800Hz ~ Muddiness Area
800-1kHz ~ Adds beef to small speakers
1-6kHz ~ Adds presence
6-8kHz ~ Adds high-end presence
8-12kHz ~ Adds hiss
Kick Drum
Any apparent muddiness can be rolled off around 300Hz. Try a small boost around 5-7kHz to add some high end.
50-100Hz ~ Adds bottom to the sound
100-250Hz ~ Adds roundness
250-800Hz ~ Muddiness Area
5-8kHz ~ Adds high end presence
8-12kHz ~ Adds Hiss
maybe you know another good plugins like stillwell?

I either use Fabfilter's Pro-Q or Live 9's native EQ (EQ8). When using any of Live's stock plugins you should make sure to check the different options available when right-clicking the plugin in your chain, ie. high-quality (always on and saved as default in my case).
Peace
Edit: Pro-Q also has different quality options (oversampling), as a rule of thumb it is a good idea to try different quality settings when a plugin allows it (but always bounce with the higher quality of course). |
