Entheogenic - Flight Of The Urubus
Format: CD
Label: Universal Symbiosis Records

Finally the album has been released after much delay - & what a release !
after many many focused listens [a few being under the influence of an entheogen] on 2 quality systems, my favorite being in the car... I can safely say Entheogenic have given us a another epic & highly shamanic album ! It will take a few listens to get into.... but its definitely worth the effort..I have been an Entheogenic fan ever since their debut album was released - So I will try & be as accurate as possible..

Skullcap:
Intro appears to be rain & water running & what sounds like a crystal bowl ? > typical entheogenic atmospheres... then percussion & then a detailed build up of broken up bass lines & a thumping rolling kick >keeps building >>> lots of matrix noises >>> breaks out with what seems to be a guitar arpeggio - with very trippy FX & more matrix FX - flows in to a nice solid beat & then in explodes this rhythmic synth line... going up a few levels here = very intense ! breaks back out into guitar arpeggios & a nice rolling bass synth - man talking with very trippy FX... with great drum flange & some weird synth arrangements > & then kicks in a huge melodic synth doubled up & spun around again by the rhythmic synth... then reaches climax & drops - fading out with some guy saying '' the most powerful psychedelics occur naturally in the human brain'' interesting... this is a great opening track - very powerful & psychedelic & top quality production all the way through.. great ending with the synth arrangements = 9/10

Trara:
Intro's with pads & soft rhythmic drums - keeps building >>> lots of little noises & things popping in & out - keeps building up >>> lots more noises & then kick comes rolling through & breaks out into a big break-beat & a massive synth melody ! very intense as normal - & then breaks into another very phat synth line - very trippy..... this then continues for a while changing between melodies & then flys out the other side with big industrial pads - not your normal Entheogenic track - not quite 100% sure what the intent is here ? but from an aural perspective, it's very intense & pleasurable... very very phat & almost funky & oozzes & trips with psychedelia - great track = 8/10

Araras:
Interesting intro with strange pad & a woman & man talking about something deep.. gradually builds with rhythmic sounds & what sounds like a double-bass bass line ! - then breaks out into a lovely atmospheric break-beat... similar to the previous track, but with a more emotional & sombre vibe > ah.... some really good synth work & here & great drums & flange FX rolls along until that famous instrument [forget the name - zither ? from previous entheogenic albums] brings in a powerful melody & interesting arrangements > Similar to the previous track with structure but carries a very emotional vibe - lovely track, again not quite sure what the intent is here... but very pleasurable & quality listening = 7/10

Entheogen Spice:
Great intro - sounds like an organ on acid followed up by an interesting loop which breaks out into beautiful floating geometric visions with a deep powerful bass line.... followed by a synth melody & lush Pink Floyd sounding pads > then followed by a provocative acoustic guitar arpeggio - which then flows back into a delicious synth melody - & the there is a voice... a man singing about ? entheogens ? accompanied by drums , bass & stunning acoustic guitar arpeggios & melodies - followed by more haunting singing... ends with nice climax of all the previous components & then fades out with a piano melody - This is a stunning track packed with all those usual Entheogenic ingredients + more.... this is more like a song than a tune & carries a deep & emotional vibe > just love those acoustic guitars = 8/10

Microcondian:
Strange intro of deep water noises & a young girl singing, people talking - lots of FX here & very deep pads & swells - followed by rhythmic loop of what sounds like chains & a very haunting melody, oboe ? not sure... lot's of noises > very trippy... a drum beat then kicks in & swells up & then the this synth melody is released >>> wow it starts to get very intense.... the melody seems to repeat itself again & then everything drops out with this amazing synth drenched in FX - mind blowing is all I can say !!!!!!! this is psychedelic music at its best... my ears are still laughing from the experience >>> this is then followed by the haunting oboe melody & then swells into a break-beat with a really phat bass line >>> lots of FX, pads, synths, more talking & stunning, almost scary vocals > gently comes to end with the oboe sounding melody & noises & man ends it saying 'I feel almost too much to think' - seems like the case > This is a quality tune beyond description >>> very psychedelic & very intense - the synth melodies in the middle are almost too pleasurable... I very rarely give 100% but = 10/10

Urubus:
A powerful rolling synth starts this tune flowing with lots of FX etc... hi-hats come in with some more FX & is followed by drums - slight break... & then the fun begins >>> huge synth melody starts coupled & doubled by many other components = this is Entheogenic at their best again >>> stunning synth arrangements as we know & love them for.... this continues for a while >>>> Highly psychedelic..... then there's a break is followed by another very out there melody > again, stunning... Great trade mark tune >>> faultless & carries a fantastic journey / it holds the name of the album - so I feel there is much meaning here = 9/10

Vervain:
Lovely intro... electric guitar, synths, pads - soft loops... break, man says ''This is beautiful'' & then launches back into the electric guitars & synth melodies >>> seems to build & build while coming to a climax with this very psy guitar playing & then drops like a ocean wave.... gently rolls along & starts building up again >>>> much the same through out... but accompanied by a very tribal chant.. Interesting challenging tune - took me a few listens... but now I really dig it >>> very intense climaxes while being subtle at the same time - if that makes sense ?... again, love those guitars - great to hear live instruments = 7/10

Fellowship:
Starts with a jazzy drum loop & then floating watery pads backed up by a wicked double-bass ? line... >>> opens out into a lovely jazz sounding feel... a haunting trumpet sounding instrument plays a melody.. reminiscent of 'Light Ocean Blue' & then at 1:12min it seems to break into 5/4 timing ? my musical skills aren't that great... but that's what a friend of mine says it is - which gives this track a great feel >>> it builds & builds with all sorts of FX, electric piano, synth melodies & arrangements... a few breaks here & there- Keeps building up & up... getting increasingly more intense - very loud synths at work here... climax's & then suddenly drops & ends !!!Very interesting Psy- Jazz type tune.... intense as ever & different > love the double bass = 7/10

Rio Barra:
A solid piano chord sequence starts this tune accompanied by a very airy electric guitar & more piano melodies - this has a very laid back & slightly jazzy Brazilian feeling [Hence the name "Rio" Barra" i suppose] >>> again, great double-bass bass lines... chilled synth arpeggios - lots of melodies here & there from all the different instruments > great beats helps this all flow along... >> & then a break is followed by what sound like Jimmy Hendrix playing or someone to that quality - gradually fades & ends......Great tune - shows great musicianship here from Entheogenic >>> great all-rounder... easy listening, while still carrying an air of quality, presence & mystical = 8/10

Itaipava:
Another piano orientated intro starts this one of... followed by yet another double-bass & haunting vocals - nice synth work here >>> similar feeling to Rio Barra... but more psychedelic & haunting >>> suddenly this all drops & is replaced by a stunning acoustic guitar section with what then appears to be a Psy-Lullaby - really was not expecting this.... no words - I only presume this one of the boys singing as it's similar to the voice in 'Entheogen Spice' >>>> it ends with something about flying away into the universe & then just ends !
I was really not expecting this !!! the only way I can describe this is; It's a Psychedelic Lullaby with some great musicianship happening here - the singing is very emotional & powerful & I can make out a few words & sentences here & there.. but I will let others be the judge of that >>> this track is stunning & ends the album perfectly = 9/10

Conclusion:

Well, I've had the CD stuck in my CD player [home & car] for 5 days now & it seems to get better & better with each listen - it might not be as colorful as their first album... but it is for sure as playful !!! it also shows an obvious maturing from these two fantastic musicians & they have produced again another album of high quality production & great music... This album also seems to contain all the elements you would want from a full-blown studio album - lots of good healthy psychedelia mixed with chilled-out beats & bass - timeless & epic / my only complaint is that it's not long enough - I feel some of the tunes could have gone on for longer....

I feel this album will please a lot of different people / it's certainly much broader than just the Psy scene... but it for sure will please hardcore Entheogenic fans + others who might not generally appreciate their style of music !!! I read somewhere before, someone quoting that their music as not ''fast-food music'' like most of the music is today - this is very true - the listener has to be totally present when listening to this album or it will be completely pointless !!! at times the music is so subtle >>> but when heard with a complete open mind - it's mind blowing stuff - as I suppose entheogens are... subtle, but yet mind-blowing & very playful - if that makes sense ? this album is must for all psychedelic music lovers... & I reckon, set to be the release of the year ! I know I'm a big fan of Entheogenic... but I feel many others will agree with what I have written = almost perfect = 9/10

In my opinion the best Entheogenic album since their first two releases.
Different and innovative from their last albums, just so much more, deep psy stuff, some progressive, some yet without category, brilliant all together.

Skull Cap and Trara are two classic psy gems, blowing my mind.
Microcondian is simply beyond words, my favorite track of all times.

I give it a rocking 9.8

Excellent come back from Entheogenic.

What a positive surprise. Havent been that excited about an album for ages.
Flight of the Urubus - isnt like any other release, I would call it psy- and musicaly large, no Indian samples here, nor any samples at all.

It is a mind/body catching release. This will be a big one in my opinion, no doubt what so ever.

Highly Recommended!!!

Amazing album from beginning to the end, nothing comparable to it.
Bigger sound then ever, no doubt a lot of time spend on creating it.

Nothing much to add, give it a try its worth it.

Hey master margherita strange attitude coming from an artist.

Must be difficult for you not to come up with any dissent music by your own.
Jealousy is a weird thing.

wow dude !!! it's so sad to see an artist attacking another artist - no respect

First of I will say - I've never heard of Etheogenic {magherita must be drunk]

but if you meant Entheogenic? then...

If I comment on music I will write a positive

If I don't like the music - then I leave it alone... as that's not my place to be negative - How will mankind survive with such negativity

Sorry margherita but you sound like another deluded coke head who does not even know his own arse to his beak !!! & with a name that basically represents alcohol & Pizza [WTF ?] cannot be of sound mind... stinks of R-Complex & Babylon poison !

I'm sorry bro, but Entheogenic is obviously beyond YOU ! & that is sad for you.. [must be all that meat you eat.. blocks the subtle energy flow & natural mind process !] Entheogenic might not be everyones cup of nettle tea !!! but IMO are the best & most influential act in this scene ! Their music speaks volumes on many dimensional levels & is still blowing [enthoegenic]-minds all over this spectacular planet [can't say the same about your music marherita !]

Flight of the Urubus is a stunning album !!!!
I've only just received mine from Hunab-ku, so still yet to write a review... but what I can say for now is: this one is a winner & will be waking up people all over the planet & helping them through their transition... this beyond having fun - this is full-on deep spiritual music with the highest of Psychedelic intent... I'm still trying to get my head around it... & yes it's different - but great for meditation & shamanic journeys with entheogens !!! hence the name Entheogenic I suppose....

No hard feelings margherita, but I just totally have to dis-agree with you !

Interesting album. So far I don't see how it's better than the first but maybe it will grow on me. It sure is different though. It is their most distinct album to date. If I didn't know what I was listening to I wouldn't have though Entheogenic.

After the first listen it sounded more like lounge music than psychill. I am not sure where people are hearing all that psychedelia. There are elements but it's a tiny fraction of what previous albums had. Live instruments always snap me back into reality.

So far my verdict is that this album is lounge music with tiny elements of psy. This album is much more accessible/pop and I see many tracks being featured on lounge music compilations like Buddha this/Cafe that/etc. I guess good for them, maybe they will make some money off of this. It's still quality music.
