Maybe I am missunderstanding what you are saying but do you mean that they want Super Audio CD and DVD Audio to stop downloads? If you are, you are wrong. The real reason is very simple: The patent on CDs is running out. They need a new licensing scheme to make money.

why everyone loves vynil? it's huge, it has crapty sound quality (all those crackings, how can u say it's better then a cd) and it's hard to get and it's expensive too
vinyl sucks!

Dear UnderTow,
unfortunately you have misunderstood my point regarding the Super Audio CD and DVD.
What my meaning was in that post, is that the major companies are investing a lot of money and resources to "produce" everything in "virtual" format! By "virtual" format, i mean that no more CD/DVD/VINYL or whatever physical product will be available in the near future! And this change will be fast and radical!
And as you well said, the patent on CDs is running out. Actually is already runned out! Therefore thousand new chinese industries are now offering CD/DVD and general consumer electronics in such low prices!
By the way, I would suggest our dear label owners/managers to start to Re-invent their business models.

vinyls are trendy, yes, but they have crap sound quality compared to cds, since most trance music is digitally produced anyways and not recorded acoustically, there would be a definite loss in quality transferring it to vinyl. but not to cd, as this is digital too.

digitally produced yes but does it has to be 100% high quality master music ,btw i really love those scratchi sound what comes when you play some 70 s funk cuts ....on vinyl and at least us who still take the art of digging serious have those vinyls still in 20 years and they have some value while your shpongle collections are junk yard items(and propably all scracthed up) |

Ah ok. Sorry for missunderstanding. One little pedantic note: The license on DVD is still valid I think.
Anyway, You are right about alot of majors focusing on virtual distribution of their products. They have been working on this for 3-5 years now. (The smart ones at least) I was involved in some of this in my previous work.
Now the question is, when will the psytrance scene take this up? As far as I know, there still isn't any real downloadshop for psytrance. Who is going to pick the ball up before it becomes one of the subsections of a major coorporation?

regarding who will be the first, I have the feeling that Saikosaounds is taking the initiative to expand the business through the virtual purchaces.
But It will not be easy to survive, and whoever will do the first step should be ready for heavy investments...
In general, humans having difficulties with instant changes and in general with the "new"! So, i suppose that it would be the same thing with this topic. Switching from physical products to virtual products there is a need of time...but surely this is the FUTURE for the consumers and the NOW for the business owners!
