i don t know what plug it is but you can be close tweaking the esm and sample it note by note (i do 1 bounce for 1 note cause it seems only the first note start well with the oscillator ,then when you cut them in a audio editor don t forget to zoom in vertically too or you ll not cut it at the start of the waveform)tweaking the esm and the size of the note is the key for this bassline,it doesn t need lot of equing and you can try the nick crow tubemaximizer V0.5 to compress it a bit , i find it very good for bassline

I tweaked esm at the same freq and I think good, and i know all about how envelop can fuck the sound, and why I need to sample each note. I told that sound vary close, almost the same, but it doesn’t sit right in the mix. At monitors its sound almost the same, but in headphones the difference evident. All things in plug and how its connected and tweaked.
Nevertheless thanks, I will check tubemaximizer V0.5 …

hey man !

listen first of all i wanna tell u that no matter how much u compare yr work to others it will never be the same
u will never get the same result unless u know exactly how it was processed and the chain ,
which links me to the point that - u will ALLWAYS feel like 'damn , this shit is much better than mine' and than feel like shit (unless u have 1 ton of ego and u really like what u do:)
but its not true , it could be really good just different and dont forget u are comparing to mastered tracks which also makes it much better and the tracks
just speak much better through the speaker and u dont see the membrane flying out in yr face also because trax are mastered.

btw , bass in quake is an audiorealism sample and in analogiz is esm samples but the thing is i got so confuzed with this bass ,
it just didnt sound right to me so i had to put like 16 plugs on this motha (1 channel sent to 1 group) to make it sound right
and i still thinks it doesnt sound right , but thats the whole point - u will allways think u can do better - the thing is - make some tracks on the way -
and dont just get stuck on 'how did they do it'

i think i also used that old plug 'dominion' on the analogiz bass , its a kind of an envelope shaper , so u can add more punch and pressence the bass ,
just push a bit of the attack of the plug and y'll get some more punch , its quite nice

and another thing - if u really got tired of trying to make the bass right - just try a different sample (from the same synth) with differnt tweaking
than try to process again . try a few samples like that with different envelopes till u find something right .
i think its very important to make the envelope right from the synth BEFORE u sample it , and not from the sampler u are using - u will never get it right
if u trust only the samplers envelope . it has to be right from before u sample it thats why u should try a few samples.

also when u sample esm try to not use full velocity in the midi (127) ,
try to use more the areas at like 80 - for some reason it just sounds better and more stable also.

why you sample the bass instead of using the synth?

less resources? to have the same envelope for every note?

I'm clueless, but think sampling gives you more control and avoid the need to use the hardware, making your setup simpler.

About envelopes, the only ones I know are the ones the postman deliver to my place. And yes, I recycle them.

Because Logic´s esm is very unstable i donno..also audiorealism bassline domestic used i guess...i used esm for long time too and sampled it because unstable...

@ Ido, thx mate for your uplifting words!

some question you might be able to answer:

how do you mix your kick-bass, is the kick much louder or only some db?
how much do yu roll off the bass (cut off of the low freq of the bass (32 hz or 50...)

i know it'll depend on the certain sound but just some starting point...
i'm often not shure about these stuff..and i have not much possibility to play on big system..so...

thx and keep on yr real good work

there is no point on trying to know how many dbs kick should be more than bass cuz each kick has a different energy , different peaks and different rms , one kick would sound good when its +4 db compare to the bass and one could be -1 db , so there is noway u can make a rule out of it , its all in the ears .

on the bass i usually try not to lowcut it cuz sometimes it makes it sound plastic after u lowcut , instead if i use a regular eq on that freqs (20 - 40 hz) to make it softer.

if i have a big problem in that freqs i use a lowcut nomore than 25 - 30 hz just to cut that vibration on the speaker .

but if its a big problem and i had to use a lowcut maybe i shouldnt use this bass in the first place cuz i just dont like to lowcut.           .ParadoX Rocks.

Domestic, it's been a pleasure reading all your contributions to this thread, but i think this is probably the most important sentence of all

@ Brain Hacked

There are some samplers which can sample your synths by itself ! it´s just amazing...

for example:

Arguru DirectWave included in Fruty Loops i guess..
and there are a few others, but dont know what names they have...

They just sample your vst instruments easyer..!
