I just want to underline something here.

You can try around to make a bass like someone else for days and maybe you will never be able to.

But you can, with the same knowledge create a bass which sounds good and other think "how did he do that" within hours.

It's much more difficult to "sound like" than to "sound good"!!

I say: Most of the artists you look up to and think.. "uaaa how did they do this?" acutally are not aware of how difficult it could be for others to do the same, since it was easy for them, because they just did what THEY can!

But you are try to do what THEY can, instead of what YOU can. And this make it all a whole bit more difficult.

All hail this comment!!

This thread is very entertaining. I have laughed out loud and learned something at the same time. I have always been interested in Mr. Ophir's careful application of effect processing and dynamics to create mood and feeling in a piece of music. I often wonder if Avihen 'Cosma' were here, just what the Domestic Cosma collaborations would sound like with the benefit of advanced production software and more time producing together. But I guess that's off-topic.

So I got the Voxengo Gliss and I do find it very easy to work with. That will be the first or second insert on my low/mid/high FX channels for finalizing. I also dropped in the URS 1970 comp on the master channel (I think I like the Mix Buss 2 preset best) but obviously it will depend on the needs of the final track. Plan to start toying with basses soon - I don't have Trilogy but I've made or modified some presets in Rapture that pack a decent attack, I also have the poly-evolver to toss in some analog sequenced basses (haven't tried to sample notes and import into a vst yet). I hear Predator is also well-equipped to rock the bottom-end.           ELECTRON EYES / MARK-EVAN (NOR. CAL)

a good compression is always good and makes the bass more stable at all notes, also important to use quality ones such as uad 1176 or urs compressors.

The main value of compressors is in adding punch to a sound that lacks it naturally. Better to not lack it first, but most synths (as opposed to sampled bass) do not punch shit up enough, especially VSTi.

quadrafuzz is also very good sometimes for somekind of multiband eq , just load the first preset and change the crossover points, u can sometimes get a realy good phaze for the bass by that and it also make it more stable.

I said this a while back, this plugin just loaded in on its default is one of the coolest instamatic cabinet emulations.

waves r-bass makes the sound very phat sometimes when u use it between 32hz and 60hz but just a lil bit on the gain so it would still sound natural, i mostly put the fader on -24 to -20 make it sound really warm

I like to avoid this plugin where possible because it seems to add lag. But sometimes it is needed for forensics, and timing issues notwithstanding it is an awesome sculpting tool.

synths i use for basses mostly are esm , es1 , cronox 2(not 3)and trilogy.

I wouldn't agree necessarily with that, adding punch its like to increment certain transient, by usually having a slower attack you can make a sound more punchy, but thats not what one always needs. I think sometime i actually kill a little bit the punch (faster attack) depending on the sound, so i can fit it in the mix.
I think what ido said about stabilizing is the best use, to make sure your bass is not too jumpy so you can fit it.

There you go !

I can't help but to be skeptical. I don't think this is going to help you... both version are good there is an obvious improvement on the master versions but noneless the bass is always there.

Anyhow keep working on it, follow ido's advice these are excellent. That's really the only serious bass thread here.

I learned a lot from it the rest was from hardwork, and patience.

cheers
