Haha... another piece of gold.

Well, why should psytrance have mass appeal anyway? Oh but some of it does... the new album from Astrix is going to be big for example. All ya need to do is remove the clutter from psytrance so the sounds are more straight-forward and suddenly its more accessable to the mainstream. But yeah, why would you want to do that to this music? At least we can be safe in the knowledge that for all the cash-seduced artists who drift towards the commercial side there will always be underground artists making complex psychedelic trance that isn't so easy to fathom at first, yet is infinitely more satisfying for those who are tuned in...

IMHO if the "midia" decides that Trance (GOA, DRAK, Proggy, etc..) is going to be the next hip hop, than thats that..... it will happened weather why like it or not..,... but I think there will always be the good projects and the garbage ones that are in the business just for some fast cash..... thats how the world works... if it sels there is going to be a lot of producers lined up do "discover" the next "big star".....

The thing about psy is that you have to listen to it some times before you can enjoy it, and you cannot play a song to somebody and expect them to like it, because its so complex it requires a couple of listens to like it in the first place.

Did any of you try the following : invite a couple of friends who are into classical music, I mean the tough stuff that you precisely can't go into easily (Liszt and the likes for instance), and play them some well-built and complex Psy.

I did this with Death Metal (no kidding !) and they kinda appreciated some refined guitar parts (Morbid Angel Domination period for those who know).

But the moment I tried with some electronic music it was "Nah, no boring boom boom noise please !!" What a shame, I felt very frustrated ! I should try some Shpongle next time...

Jeff ,
Play them some old goa instead, not so much emphasis on the kick and bass in some old goa tunes.... maybe easier to melt?

i dont know but sometimes i think what people can concentrate on easy is the bass and kick, cause they are the most obvious elements... and thats also why i think people that are not into psy say that its too monotonous.. i dont think they understand that its meant to dance to

btw some of todays dance trance is very easy to melt, nice melodies simple bass easy rhythms.. like Astrix, Audiotech, Jirah and so on...

or is it just me?

I have a lot of friends who are into grind and mainly black metal and most of them have loved stuff like IM and the darker, more melodic side of psy-trance. It's clear that there's a connection, especially if you listen to IM..... no doubt about it, the folkish guitar melodies come from black metal and music alike.           www.kiwa.fi

the question to be asked here is DO WE REALly want PSy to get MASS appeal??????

IMO PSy getting a mass appeal wud not be good..trust me on that

Yes man, but unfurtunally there's nothing we can do about that! Today's media capacity (and internet mainly) offers everyone a chance to get in touch with different things and new cultures and events! trance is one of those things....
I don't think it's about the music beeing commercial or not....I think the main reason why Psy-trance is getting everywhere is because people just boring with clubs, and desapointed with the house/tecnho scenne and they're looking for something new and exiting for them!! don't you think psy-trance is a reasonable next step to them? i mean...what could be better then get out of those stupid smooky clubs dancefloors and get out in the forest where you are free and can do almost whathever you want?
I think this is a good reason for more and more people start listen and going to trance partys!! and don't see that as a bad bad thing...but some things will be lost for sure!!

wuhu .,, now that is wht i wanted to hear.

if it gains mass appeal its only gud fr the scene .,, recee's latst compil va/ schizm is not selling coz no ones buying quality music.,,

how long do you think that theyll b able to hold out? sustain themselves? luv fr the scene will carry on but we have to take it to a different level .,, , if u wan the culture to take over the world ., i mean the vibe will b one

thats one belief i hold really strongly. i dunno who agrees or disagrees .,, to everyone his own!           missing plug-in

I think psytrance have to stay somehow underground...
If it come to the people straight from the main radios or the supermarkets, where is the magic ?... Where is the difference with all other kind of music ?...
It will just be another mass-consumption product with all the usual vultures hanging around the scene...

And what about the values ? They are more important to me than the money some of us could do....

People have to look for psytrance a little bit. Have to be ready to go for it. Have to have the chance one day to discover it...
It's our duty to help them. To share what we have with them...
But I don't think we should offer it if they are not somehow ready for it and willing to discover it...

Good chance the world take us out in the process...

To many dumb people out there that wants to make to much money. Just look at Hip-Hop.. *bling bling*

What is wrong with Hip-Hop?I think that even if the psy scene will become popular(in terms of MTV)it doesn't have to be such a disaster.Yeah,Hip-Hop in USA is a big money maker, and for some big money means "not keeping it real" (or "pure").But there are big UNDERGROUND scenes everywhere and in every musical style. So if psy-trance will become eventualy "main-streamy" (or whatever) there will be underground artists to "keep it real & pure".
BTW I also love to hate POP MUSIC!!!
