My grandmother also doesnt reveal the secret for her AMAZING cheesepie to whoever asks her about it, not even to her daughters.

Get over it people noone is obliged to reveal anything to you if he doesnt want to, maybe he doesnt like you after all.

There are thousands of tunes out there anyway.           Toodaloo Motherfuckers!!!!!

i know some DJ's that are afraid.....

they are afraid that if you know what music they are playing, you will find where they get their music from and what artists they play and then "steal the spotlight"....

its all about ego IMO.

This.

Sometimes when I put mixes out (Especially with psychedelic trance) I have an inclination to keep the tracklist a secret to add to the mystique of the mix, but at the end of the day my job as a DJ is to show people amazing music and for those artists who make the tunes, DJs are one of their main outlets for promotion.

I wouldn't feel right screwing over an artist just so I can retain listeners, that's just selfish and probably a good indication of a bad DJ

It's also common that DJs, producers, engineers, or anyone who is generous with their knowledge are thinking about the long game. They're comfortable with their ability to find the next best thing tomorrow or they simply want to teach someone who will be the next best thing tomorrow.

The time it's probably understandable is when you have created something so unique that it's about giving away a secret recipe. Like DETOX's grandma's yummy sounding cheesepie.

Unknown track is not a big deal. There's even a section to track that kind of stuff on the forum. Producers forum's filled with posts about copying signature sounds too. Imo, where you draw the line is publishing, so if you're putting your mix out you should include the tracklist.

But there are a lot of big DJs who flout that bit too, whatcha gonna do!?!

Too many and it's pointless bashing them, so post the track name already!

Of course, but then your grandma is the only one who knows that recipe, so it's something she has the ability to keep control of. In contrast, the track we're talking about had been released for a while before the DJ used it, and he was therefore trying to conceal something which was already in the public domain.
