You guys should message him mentioning the track name and that he's shit or something, if he cares that much about people not knowing he might freak.

Or better yet, message the artist and get the two in contact... maybe the artist will put the dj on a blacklist (not that that's enforceable)

To be honest a musician or DJ is not obligated to tell you anything, so as rude as it may seem you just have to suck it up. There is an entire subforum here dedicated to finding the ID of tracks, this could've easily been solved by posting the clip there.

I saw one of my fav metal bands last night, and after chatting with the vocalist over a bottle of 31 year old scotch (he is an old friend) I asked about this thread and in his words "go fuck yourself mate, you can find out yourself when it's released or by searching. Music is a work of art and if musicians or DJs want to keep what they play close to their chests they have more right to that just like any artist not wanting to give their secrets". I agree.           Cuntus Maximus.

I don't know about that...it wasn't even like he was using it in one of his mixes. The guy used a bit of a track to overdub a video he was making, if anything, he is REQUIRED to give credit to the artist for using the artists property to make something new.

What a load of bullshit. Since when was a DJ a musician? I was fucked off because the DJ in question - i.e. somebody who plays other people's tunes - refused to tell me the name of a track that was in no way directly affiliated to himself.

I agree that music is a work of art, it is something that permeates deeply within a lot of people; therefore, it is also something that shouldn't be kept secret by - as I said - people in no way connected to the music that was made first-hand.

Anyway, as has been said, it was the name of a fucking released track uploaded as a backing track for a video showcasing the decor of the DJ's friend.

(Note: I posted it in the subforum [OK, it got moved there 'cos I didn't know said subforum existed] and the track ID was posted up on here first. Unfortunately music with no vocals is a lot harder to find than 'traditional' music, so your "This could've easily been solved..." comment is not correct. This applies more so to very underground music such as forest psy.)

i know some DJ's that are afraid.....

they are afraid that if you know what music they are playing, you will find where they get their music from and what artists they play and then "steal the spotlight"....

its all about ego IMO.           http://soundcloud.com/soospicey

You dont have to publish the track list but when someone asks for the name of one track one should give it...or even the full track list!!!

One thing...

if anyone here thinks that a producer or a dj gives away all his knowledge he or she are foolish....even those who are known for being online free tutors for electronic music dont....and i dont blame them at all...i'm thankful for all they were/are willing to teach me!!!! Th rest of the path you do it by yourself...it's the best way to learn and be really good at it

Hmm Ellon that's like saying it the same thing when you ask a producer which synth/vst they use to make a sound VS. when u ask a DJ which track it is.

Or if u go deeper in the fractal. Asking the software engineer which algorithm they used or asking an electrical engineer where they source their parts from.

My personal standpoint is still that the DJ should give tracklist but can understand this other point of view as well.

Most important bit how you ask!

As a DJ those who ask for requests are politely refused/strategically distracted... those who demand them are asked to pizzoff!

1. Grow up & stop swearing & behaving like a 12 year old girl when someone says stuff you don't like.

2. Actually I see a DJ much like an artist, they take he sounds and paint them in a new way to create their own vision and journey, it's not as easy as you say or else au would too DJs get paid so much?

3. Noone has to tell you shit mate, grow up and deal with that.

4. If you behaved in person like you have towards a total stranger on here, I'd punch before I told you anything.           Cuntus Maximus.

Lol Mike....Your comment is even more childish. And in my opinion a dj is a million years apart from the artist who have spend alot of money and time to actually make the music.

I always provide information when asked, but i understand people who dont...i dont minimize the DJ role (compared witrh a producer or engineer) and searching for music, knowing labels/artists is a big part of it...i understand that some dont want to share all his secrets the same way i producer or a sound engineer dont!

can you please point me to these events and organizers where "dj's get paid so much"?

i would like to point my DJ friends in that direction so they can start making money and stop losing it

In over 20 years of DJing, whenever anyone has asked me for the name of a track, I always tell them....so long as I remember I mean, they may even go out and buy it if it's a released one. If it's unreleased, I tell them that and give them an idea about when it may come out or the artist that made the tune. The thing is in the psy trance scene, there is a very high proportion of people who are or class themselves as DJ's/Producers/Artists/Promoters etc, so I can fully understand why some people may be hesitant. I know the guy who made the initial video and I also know Psychedanic (who is not a DJ). If it was an unreleased track then fine, but it's a track that was released in 2009...As for DJ's getting paid lots of money. In London if you play psy trance you're only going to get a good payment if you're a label owner otherwise just consider it a hobby where you may cover your expenses if you're lucky           Turn On, Tune In, Trance Out!!!

I play a chillout set at my local drinks bar every week for 2 hours & get $250 cash for the set plus free drinks/cocktails/hard liquor of my choice for the night (generally they know what I like so a bottle of 31 y/o single malt scotch waits for me). It covers my costs and as I registered my DJ'ing as a company I get great tax benefits on buying my music, gear and income from it           Cuntus Maximus.

DJs are weird creatures, some get free music and promote the music they get sent as a way of thanking the artist, others keep it on the down low to prolong the "uniqueness" of their sets.

In any case, you should download enough music so that you actually get to hear it, instead of getting pissed off at someone who did not reveal track IDs of tracks you fell in love with, yet already have in your possession.

Peace out.
