I like it. Well said Greg.

Perhaps some activities should take place in order to bring the people together, say, at the beginning of the festival, and try and convey the good vibes that we're trying to attain. Maybe it wouldn't work, I don't know.           www.dants.net

Multigenre parties work a lot better on a smaller scale from what I've experienced (sub 1000 person parties). I've found that you really have to be in a different mindset when going to those (don't expect the loving atmosphere you experience at pure psytrance parties, but still find a way to enjoy yourself).

Psytrance main stage with edm at the night time hours on a second stage is looking to be an effective conversion method without overrunning a party with "those types of people".          http://soundcloud.com/ascensionsound

I gotta say....
I know for a fact that some of the ravers and jam-band kids got converted or at least started to like psy, i am a first hand eyewitness:) also i talked to some of the kids as well.
we may have not converted alot, but I'd say the people that did were worth the attempt:)
other folks who have tried this strategy of bring ravers/jam band/burner kids to beef up attendance at psy-oriented events (to one degree or another): spook/geomagnetic, green sector/psytribe, symbiosis fest, psycircle.
no harm in it cause there just aint too many of us psy folk!

I definitely support the strategy, as long as the intention by all is there to be peaceful and enjoy themselves...

This being said, I've been to some large all psy gatherings outside of the country where the vibe isn't all that either... So it really depends on the vibe of the people and why they are there.. If it's a purely hedonistic gathering with no respect for your fellow partygoer or the land, then I'm sure that most of the ones that hold those values dear will shy away from something like that, but if it still holds those values that make us go to these events, then all groups will enjoy it.           An Eagle may soar, but Weasels don't get sucked into jet engines.

I think it's a great way to get converts. I started as a raver, I went to my first festival which was Future Perfect at NCN in WI where Hardkorenate had the "Psyrates Cove" stage all night where I truly fell in love with psytrance and I stayed dancing at the stage the whole weekend. And this is where I met the Mindoutpsyde guys who said you gotta come to Psyowa for a psy party! I'm like huh iowa... yeah right, but then when I did... WOW

It converted me, and future parties around MN/IA/WI have helped convert tons of other ravers from here.

Esoteric Gen, with the exception of the Goa Gil event, have always featured SEVERAL different styles, and for the most part, this has at the least created a symbiotic dancefloor experience although isolated, and at best, has been awesome! These genres always include a good smattering of local live downtempo, house, "trance", jungle....always been a welcome, chill, groovy addition....i suppose our area is blessed with awesome edm djs........point is, it CAN be done beautifully....just gotta make sure youve got all the right intentions at the helm, as it seems,           Wake walking through your sleep dream

enuf has been said about the tweakers lol so I wont get there !

the goods for me:
some excellent sets at the festival - baba jelly (my fav.) with some real powerful stuff and very danceable too ... indeed a great flow with no cut outs .... Parus - very good tunes from these guys ... was great to see them spin outdoors onkel dunkel - perfect nighttime psycedelica ... super duper bumped to miss Ajja twice !!!! spacetribe, cosmosis and transdriver - fun fun fun !

the downers:
something that really bothered me (ofcos other then the roll selling kids all over) were some of the drunk security/volunteers - driving those carts full speed on the dncefloor so many times .... and on a sunday afternoon with those beautiful kids chasing the soap bubbles ... it could have been dangerous !

sound system - excellent but too heavy on the ears several times !

some 'more' deco - I personally felt that the main stage had more of a rock concert setup (atleast while IM were playing ) !

Did Ajja even play peaking goddess set ?

more organized workshop setup and schedules.

Im sure the Orgz. will take this as a positive criticism and make it a better experience next year ... I know they have the intent right

"(from newraveorder.com)
Favorite sets go out to ( in no particular order): Egzail, Vogel, Spring Break (Never heard of them prior but their energetic performance stole me away for a while), Nicky Twist, Dali St8cyde Jump Up!, Infected Mushroom, Crystal Method, Transdriver, Onkel Donkel, and Mexican Trance Mafia. Teh jam bands were glorious and uplifting whenever I came across them (never caught the names but they were all enjoyable). That awesome Fidget House mix which was played in the middle of camp like Friday morning or Saturday morning.

I definitely danced to the point of beyond soreness on multiple occasions, so having such good music in such a small timeframe seems like a crazy endurance marathon. I kept thinking I was missing so many good sets, like all the good drum n bass on the 2nd stage. Either way this festival was amazing. My first festival and it set the bar high. The camp was so tight around the campfire, and everyone became friends immediately. It was great sharing food and supplies when people needed it just to make things go easier. I had no idea what to expect and I kept saying to myself "This is when the event beat the high expectations I had for it. This is what perfect feels like" cheezy but whatevs."

I'm really amazed at some of the comments here. I never experienced the blasting Drum and Bass that so many people speak of because nothing ever overpowered or even happened to distract me from hearing the mainstage when I was in my tent right behind it. I had no issues with feeling like my tent would be ravaged by random passers-by. The drug dealers were either extremely-blunt-and-to-the-point so that they wouldn't take up your time, or genuinely courteous partygoers who happened to be carrying mind-altering substances. I had an awful time trying to figure out timeslots and when artists were playing, and wondering when the Rata stage would start playing music, so the renegade stage was my haven whenever there was indecision. The food vendors were delicious and organizing overall had no glaring faults. I was able to pay $120 at the door, and most of my friends had no trouble becoming volunteers to gain admission.

It absolutely saddened me to hear the prospect of next year's Desiderata having no "Assorted EDM" stage like the renegade stage because that formula was magical for my raver friends and I.

In general there was nothing I could think of that could make me feel at all bad about my experience at Gelston Castle and you couldn't find a more fervent supporter should the next one include a better mesh of Non-Psy EDM along with Psy.

Interesting to hear someone who probably comes from the rave side of things perspective. How did you end up paying 120 at the door?!? I was a little upset at having to pay 150, after expecting 140.

The little toddler girl chasing bubbles was one of the more magical times I have experienced at a festival. We brought a bubble machine on a whim expecting it to add a little sillyness but the little girl blew our minds with her curiosity of them. Such a purely bewildered and interested little thing, so awesome

Our car arrived prior to the gates opening up and I normally help out with the production company hired to do the lighting at this event so we thought it wouldn't be an issue gaining admission at this time but no luck was had. When I brought up the point that I promoted, that was a fruitless avenue as well. We realized that nothing could be gained and asked the price of admission since we would have to go park in a parking lot in town somewhere until the gates opened and the courteous guy that was explaining these things sold me a ticket at $120. It was an extenuating circumstance but that's how the at the gate cost was cheaper.
