see the thing is i don;t really even find a lot of what peope say is "dark" psy remotely dark...

KDD, Furious & Psykovsky is much nicer at sunrise and early morning than night time.

Ocelot & a lot of the "forest" stuff isn't dark either, it's funky and quirky.

So the topic is pointless really...           I hate you, you hate me, we are all so hap hap happy!

So why would you bother posting?

Seriously, I don't consider this music or myself dark. Not at all! Everyone uses "dark" or "darkpsy", so I don't care, I want to be understood. Responses in this thread shows that I was understood properly. What disturbs you in this thread, my friend?

Id say there are a few different and distinct styles that people lump into 'darkpsy' (myself included to save explanations like this).

Cosmo, Highko, Kindzadza, Psykovsky type stuff that is really fun and happy but fast and full of crazy effects and change-ups that works either for indoors or out, morning or night. Labels like Noise Poison, Insomnia, Tantrumm, and OSOM Music. Smiley stuff but not everyone's cup of chai.

Then theres the 'deep' dark style, such as Atriohm, earlier Para Halu, CPC, and Hokus Pokus just off the top of my skull, labels like Trishula, Vertigo, Parvati, and also again Tantrumm. Usually deeper in the octaves and full of stranger sounds.

Then theres the fast stuff some call 'psycore' which is really fast, i mean like 160-being-slow fast. Its great too in its own way and for its own reasons. I cant name any artists off the top of my head but if you hang around Triplag long enough youll find a few. Personally Im not so into faster stuff but I enjoy it now and then when in the mood.

Then theres a whole other side full of weirdness that ranges from mad Russians like Fearkiller, Dominator Project, and Terminator to the weirdness you often find on Discovalley and Avatar releases, the Nommos, Innersound, Candy Power, Fractal Noise come to mind. I think of it as more the pure 'hippie' vibe in modern psytrance costumes. Organic in its own way and, well I dont know, more like 'dirty hippie' music (myself included).

Then theres the forest trance, which is a whole world into itself although its still a small world compared to the rest of psytrance-creation. Bubbly and weird full of sounds you may expect from a bunch of forest gnomes and sprites getting crazy on scandinavian brews of some esoteric sort, perfect for getting crazy on strange brews yourself. Can be overwhelming to some as it often has a considerable volume of different layers all interacting together to form a stomping and hypnotic overall picture. Derango are the kings of course but others are challenging that position. Labels like Stone Age and Sanaton are shining examples.

Personally I usually call it all 'dark' just to save the explanation to the uninformed.           .

anyone remembers the artist 'Darkpsy' ?

i bet he could explain it all ! ; ) hihi
but..
hmm .. that's where this goes wrong..
it appears you see Midimilliz .. X-dream.. as 'dark'...

I completely do not
( Didn't try the other things you listed cause your taste simply does not speak to me at all and i'm not missing it... so... great for us both right: )

Some see Derango and Kindzadza as dark.. some as two different kinds of dark.. man oh man..

some simply see it all as just MUSIC! omfg!

so.. uhmm .. what's the use of this thread again ?
Everybody see's it how they see it.... very good !
keep that.. don't try to find someone who lists it in a way that somehow makes sense to you.. This will instantly decrease you imagination by 5 couric's..

i get your initial questions Kras, but sorry..
finding dark to suit someone's taste !? hardest thing ever... to ask for recommandations for labels is an awesome question though

Yggdrasil rec's (psycore-media-trance)
Sanaton recordings (subfreak terra-trance)
Cosmic Theatre rec's (sensual-fog-trance)
Schlabbaduerst Rekkords (wornegian-tech-phase)
Discovalley records
Vertigo records
Parvati rec's
Osom-music
moon koradji rec's
Anomalistic rec's
Phreex networks..
among others....

@ mudpeople.. Some of those connections you're making are very interesting at most.. but mainly quite personal.
Associations like : "Then theres the 'deep' dark style, such as Atriohm, earlier Para Halu, blabla "
could get people to start more threads like..
"Kindzadza is also deep ! "
and..
"Hokus Pokus is very forest ! "

I've found a role for me in this..

trying to get people to NOT use genre's and or style/catagories any longer. " He said , rantingly"

For me it was the 'dark' at that time, maybe along with some UK projects, all the psy-tech wave was a kind of root back then !

But can u hear today this music 'live' from these artists?
Like The Delta and X-Dream or Paps, and Yumade and Tripiatrik and Magus etc.?

They stopped or switched projects and styles !

The so called 'dark' today is another evolution, with other projects...

Are you bored or something? Give us a break.

Thank you all for this precious information. I was also wondering about differences in places of origin. Like I've mentioned before, I happened to know a guy that liked Mexican style. Maybe some core examples for different continents with distinct style? Whatever comes to your mind.

I don't care what others think about this thread. It's very informative for me and I thank everyone that has contributed something to this subject.

not really actually.. manicly writing these irritations on genrelovers on free moments at work.
Actually... in your first post it sounded quite like you were not really motivated to look up stuff.. or willing to embark on an interesting (maybe "hard") journey to find stuff that "really suits someone's taste"
But good that's it's informative to you dude.

Thanks for that Discooligan, indeed the short bit i hear now.. just before i leave work.. sounds quite interesting actually a bit oldish.. but i get your 'dark' allot better now. indeed it this sounds 'dark' like how i or the word maybe would describe it.

little bit of industry in there .. maybe some miniscule gothy vibes with that melo-loopy ting ting ting ting..
but i like them smashing beatz.

would still call it music.. MUSIC.. i wouldn't call it 'DARK'...
and as darkelf says.. not so current music anymore.. (that i would not know but is somewhat audible.)
now there's other evolutions.. sure.

So to not get in the way of this more appropriately called 'dark'-music. Let's not call our new evolutions, 'Dark' as well .. let's not lower ourselfs to naming it anything but musical mysteries (or anything that you feel)

Really, thanks again for attenting me on this stuff.. will listen more when i get home.

Look... this music is almost always played during nights. I see "dark" not as "evil" but as night-time. I like the atmosphere of night-time psychedelic festivals. I like visualizations. I like this style more then any other. For now...

I like darkpsy more then any other style so why should I only say that I listen to music? I like other stuff: rock, punk, ambient. But when someone comes to me and ask: what kind of music you listen to? My answer is simple: darkpsy. This is what I listen to, almost exclusively. I'm not attached to names but there is so many sounds out there that naming and labeling stuff is just useful. You don't go into the wilderness without a map. Map is not territory, I'm aware of that.

Maybe I just like maps, borders, names? If you want to discuss this, go and post your own thread. Why are you so persistent in proving something that either is obvious or no one cares?

YES, this thread gave me some good points to start my explores.

Yeah, I guess that's the kind I like the most!
I'd also like to put Olien and Already maged in this "category"
Could you name some more?
