enough is enough! i respect all artist (for the most part) We all have poetic license and we can, should, and do express ourselves any which way we please.
thing is, im really SICK and TIRED of hearing the same old corny ass samples in psytrance tracks.
dont get me wrong, samples are cool and even essential. some help build atmosphere, some help drive in the intro, some the outro.
some samples are so off the wall, they make you laugh.
some are very profound and make you think.
and there are some that are straight up corny. i mean really, really corny.

i feel its important to get this off my chest. maybe the artist think these samples are really "cool" maybe they think they are paying homage to an artist they respect by reusing the same sample.(all of which i understand) but as the listener and a devoted psytrance enthusiast, i feel it important to get this off my chest

here is a humble list of some samples that have been over used and are undoubtably PLAYED OUT!:

to the artist: dont take this personal. if you used one or two of these samples, do not take it personal. im not talking directly to you. in fact, there is a chance you are one of the few that has used the sample and used it well. no offense.

"It's ALIVE!!!!":
ok, i get it, its alive. taken from the frankenstein movie. Why so many artist but this sample in there soungs is beyond me. i mean, i understand some samples add a little spice, flavor to the track. even samples out of context are cool for a little detail, a little texture. but "it's Alive" is by no means a cool, funny or deep, profound statment. its corny!!

"we were all brought up to believe that some day we'll grow up to be rocks stars and movie stars.. but we wont.. we are slowly learning this fact.. and we are very, very pissed off":
i LOVE fight club the movie. i really do, its among my top 5 favorite list of movies. i forget who first used this sample, but it was PHAT! (maybe naked tourist??) it was done well, i liked it.
years later, i still hear 2 or 3 songs that use variations of "very pissed off" and i think this should end. that sample isn't THAT serious.

Anything from the movie SAW:
i love "dark" psytrance. i dont listen to "full-on" anymore, but hey, to each there own. i dont know if the full-on scene is plauged by the movie saw, but my dark scene most certainly is.
the movie SAW was a pretty phat movie. it had a very deep message about life, death, etc.
but WHY, WHY, WHY must so many artist sample this guys voice. he sounds like he smoked too many cigaretts, depressed, bent off life.
his voice isn't scary, it isn't DARK, its just plan ol' corny.
Leave the freakin movie alone, PLEASE!! there are like 30 songs with saw samples in them, STOP!!!!!

Terrence Mckenna:
i know this is psytrance, and mckenna was a psy head. i am familiar with his spiritual, enlightenment, existential, origin of life, consciousness philosophy.
personally, i think he really was onto something. i've heard many of his speaches, i've read SOME of his material. i respect McKeena.
when Simon Posford sampled him in his shpongle project, it was cool, done well. in fact, Posford knows how to sample fresh, original material in his songs.
but since when did that become the standard?
of all philosophers in the world to sample, McKeena seems to be the focus.
i mean seriously, at this point when i hear his voice (its very distinct) i practically tune it out already.
please, lets get original people!

Fear and Loathing in las vegas:
im not stupid, i get it. a movie about 2 guys taking mass amounts of drugs on a road trip will be prove to be a great host of psychedelic samples. i mean, they are bound to say some crazy $hit. but again, can be be a little original. too many songs with too many samples from this movie.

i mean, im not trying to bring down sampling as much as i am trying to endorse originality. if its been done, try something different

"The spice extends life, the spice expands consciousness, the spice is vital to space travel." (Dune)

"You gave her what?" "L....S....D..." (Fear and Loathing)

"Now, if any of you sons of bitches got anything else to say, now's the fucking time! "
(Kill Bill)          We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love... and then we return home.

I agree with everyone's overall sentiment, but this problem is never going to go away.

When you are a psy fan, you listen to as much music as possible, and you know who has used what and what is played out. Before I got into production I was a DJ for years and listened to as much music as possible and of course was annoyed by how often the same samples were used.

When you MAKE music... you just don't have nearly as much time to listen to other people's music. You lose track of what has been used.

Also, listeners don't realize how infuriatingly long the delay is from when tracks are made to when they are released... after a movie comes out, there is basically a 6-8 month period where a bunch of producers are all watching the same things and sampling the same things without knowing who is doing what.

That being said, yes, there are a couple of movies that have been horrifically driven into the ground over the course of years and years, there is little excuse for that.

Sampling movies and televisions shows is played out. Sometimes it works well but usually the samples add nothing to a track. In many cases they can ruin the experience completely. From a pragmatic perspective (speaking as a DJ here) there is enough good music out there that when I encounter a great song with a bad sample I simply cut it out of my collection entirely; I would never bother to play it.

Samples from the movie PI and fear and loathing in LV have been used past thier capacity but I finally saw Waking Life the other day and kept naming tracks through out the whole movie. It's been sampled to pieces.

I agree with you on this. I just never play it. Too bad really cus there are some great tracks that I just wont play because of it. I know a guy who cuts all the crap out of tracks and plays them that way which works for him great. Maybe we should all do the same? I personally am still trying to find the time when i will be able to do all of that work!

And I never get when samples get all angry and shit.Like the Kill bill one? what a joke. I thought we were celebrating life here.

my personal preference is the funny ones, or the silly ones that make you laugh.
